In the modern Internet age it’s not just data traffic surges caused by a rise in video streaming during major televised events that broadband ISPs have to watch out for. The recent launch of Steam’s (Value’s digital distribution platform for PC games) traditional Summer Sale is another one that will also be giving them a capacity headache.

Internet provider PlusNet has cut the cost of its superfast ‘Unlimited Fibre Broadband and Calls’ (FTTC) package in half from £19.99 to just £9.99 a month for the first 6 months of service. Meanwhile there are also plans for another rise in the cost of line rental and a product refresh to simplify their packages.

Internet provider PlusNet Business has slashed the price of their standard and superfast broadband + phone bundles by more than half for the first year of service, although Line Rental is still payable at the standard rate of £10.50 +vat per month with pay-as-you-go calls (add £4 for UK Anytime calls).

It’s arguably the least surprising development of the year.
