The latest estimated Q3 2025 market statistics from telecoms analyst firm Point Topic have revealed that, for the first time, Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based UK subscriber broadband ISP connections (11.56 million) have overtaken the previous generation of hybrid Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC/VDSL2) lines (10.6m).

Network analyst firm Streetwave, in collaboration with Growing Mid Wales and the Welsh Government (WG), has shared the results from a recent survey they conducted, which tested the mobile broadband coverage and performance of 4G and 5G networks – including EE, Three UK, Vodafone and O2 – around the recently held Royal Welsh Show.

Energy and communications provider Telecom Plus, which trades as Utility Warehouse (UW), has just published their latest H1 FY26 Results to the end of September 2025 and revealed that their broadband ISP grew its total UK customer base to 561,086 (up by 176,196 in the year) and their mobile base grew to 698,054 (up by 171,887).

A new survey of 90 global internet providers, which was conducted by Heavy Reading (Omdia), in collaboration with eero (Amazon) and Qualcomm Technologies, claims that more than 50% of ISPs have already deployed or expect to deploy WiFi 7 based service plans within 12 months. Part of this is to support the roll-out of multi-gigabit speed packages, said to be growing at 20.5% a year (CAGR).

The Scottish Government (SG) have published an interim evaluation report for their ongoing £697m Reaching 100% (R100) project with Openreach, which has so far helped to deploy full fibre (FTTP) broadband to 93,800 extra premises in remote rural areas. The report finds benefits in terms of “business productivity, enhanced personal wellbeing and strengthened resilience for households and communities“.

The latest annual report from analyst firm Enders Analysis – seen by ISPreview – has calculated that the UK’s largest alternative gigabit broadband networks (i.e. BT / Openreach challengers) collectively suffered losses of £1.5bn in 2024 (up from £1.304bn in 2023 and £755m in 2022) – driven by high interest rates and rising build costs. But it suggests that many may never make a profit.

A new report from the GSMA, which represents over 1,000 mobile operators and related businesses across the world, has warned that the next generation of 6G networks will require up to three times more mid-band radio spectrum to keep pace with surging data demands, AI-powered services and next-gen digital applications.

A new study from broadband ISP BT Business has today claimed that businesses could gain “an extra nine days of productivity per employee” by 2030 through boosting investment in UK connectivity, which might potentially offset the 9.4 days of sick leave each employee is estimated to take annually (almost double pre-pandemic levels).

TechUK, which represents many of the UK’s key technology firms, has today drawn on 23 indicators from across the economy, connectivity, and skills to paint a regional and national picture of the tech ecosystem via their 2025 Local Digital Index. But the report also calls on the government to “fast-track” completion of its broadband and mobile projects to tackle slow spots, ideally alongside relief from business rates.

Ofcom has today released their Connection Nations 2025 digital infrastructure report earlier than usual, which reveals that residential gigabit-capable broadband ISP networks now cover 87% of the UK (up from 84% in 2024), while outdoor 5G coverage from at least one mobile operator is available to 97% of premises (up from 95%). But rural cover remains weaker.

New research from Broadband Genie, which recently interviewed 3,997 broadband bill payers over a 4-month period, claims to have identified the “worst” ten locations in the UK for “broadband overspend” (i.e. where consumers are out of contract and thus paying more than if they were to switch ISP for a better deal). Wolverhampton tops the table with an overspend of £292.56.

A new YouGov survey of 5,209 participants from the UK, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Italy, which was conducted during August 2025 and commissioned by FRITZ! (somewhat of a vested interest), claims to have found that users regard European brands of broadband router as the “most trustworthy“.

Infracapital-backed alternative broadband ISP Fibrus, which is building a full fibre network across parts of Cumbria (England) and Northern Ireland, has published a new report that outlines three predictions for how the UK’s rural areas might look in 2050 and highlights the “extraordinary potential” of such communities as engines of growth.

A few months ago we reported that the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) in England and network analyst firm Streetwave had begun a new project to map 4G and 5G mobile broadband coverage and speed across the region using bin lorries (here). The data from this has now been made available to the public via a new interactive map.

The Government’s Building Digital UK agency has today published the latest Q2 – Q3 2025 progress report on their £5bn Project Gigabit broadband rollout scheme. The data reveals that some 1.3 million premises have now received coverage from BDUK’s gigabit programmes since their inception, albeit only 131,090 via Project Gigabit’s contracts.

One of the country’s largest alternative broadband networks, Netomnia (Substantial Group), will today publish their Q3 2025 results. The figures reveal that revenues on their multi-gigabit speed full fibre (FTTP) network increased to £27.7m (up from £23.6m in Q2 and 125% YoY) and take-up reached 14% (up from 13.4%). Some 2.8 million premises are now covered (up 241k in Q3 vs 243k in Q2).

A new Uswitch commissioned Opinium survey of 2,000 UK adults, which was conducted between 31st October and 4th November 2025, has claimed that 41% of respondents experienced at least one loss of broadband connectivity in the past 12 months and “15 million Brits” (67%) experienced outages lasting for three hours or more.
