Ofcom’s latest Q2 2018 UK complaints report finds that consumer moans are falling, while Sky Broadband attracted the least gripes for fixed line broadband (TalkTalk attracted the most) and it was the same story for landline phone services. Pay TV and Mobile providers are also included.

A Sky News report has today claimed that TalkTalk’s proposed £1.5bn plan to roll-out a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover 3 million UK premises may have stalled, which allegedly stems from a valuation dispute with investment partner Infracapital.

ISP TalkTalk has today announced the launch of their new three-point “Fairer Broadband Charter,” which seems to have been largely designed to promote some of the provider’s key selling points and among other things “challenges the telecoms industry” to end mid-contract broadband price hikes.

Budget UK ISP TalkTalk has told ISPreview.co.uk that they still “plan to be at the heart of Britain’s full-fibre future” by deploying a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to cover 3 million premises, which follows nearly a year of almost complete silence since the project was unveiled.

A new survey of 7,026 broadband customers, which was conducted by consumer magazine Which? in July 2018, has examined 12 of the biggest UK home broadband ISPs and found that customers of Virgin Media were the most likely to experience problems with their service. Meanwhile subscribers to Zen Internet had the least moans.

Some of TalkTalk’s broadband ISP customers in the UK appear to be suffering from a Domain Name System (DNS) or routing bug, which has been obstructing their access to web pages and images on the popular WordPress (blogs) and Imgur (picture sharing) websites since the weekend (other sites are also affected).

The UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) has today confirmed that they intend to pursue tentative plans to setup a new “administrative site blocking” process (as opposed to requiring a High Court injunction), which would require broadband ISPs to block customers from accessing websites that facilitate internet piracy.

Internet and phone providers Zen Internet and Plusnet have come top in a new biannual UK MSE survey of ISP customer service quality. Sadly the news isn’t so good for those at the opposite (bottom) end of the table, where TalkTalk and the Post Office could both be found.

Internet speed analyst firm SamKnows has conducted an interesting study, which examines the performance differences of major UK broadband ISPs (BT, TalkTalk, Sky Broadband, Virgin Media and Vodafone) when being tasked with downloading PC games from Valve’s popular Steam digital distribution platform.

Low cost UK ISP TalkTalk has today further discounted the special offer prices of their residential focused broadband and phone bundles. One of the biggest reductions is on their 63Mbps FTTC based “Faster Fibre Large” package, which has fallen from £28.50 a month to just £25 for 18 months of service.

Budget UK ISP TalkTalk has today launched a new “Great Connection Guarantee” for new (NOT existing) customers of their FTTC based “Faster Fibre” broadband services, which essentially enables them to leave penalty free within the first 30 days of their service going live “if they’re not fully satisfied“.

Living with a hearing problem is no fun and there can be different forms of such disabilities, which means a solution that works for one group may be unusable for others. Suffice to say that we expect the largest broadband ISPs to cater for such scenarios but a new investigation by Cable.co.uk suggests some are falling short.

Budget UK ISP TalkTalk has confirmed that customers of their slower ADSL2+ based copper line broadband packages have been seeing faster speeds and improved service stability since they adopted a new system of Dynamic Line Management (DLM) from ASSIA (Adaptive Spectrum and Signal Alignment, Inc.).

Customers of Sky Broadband, TalkTalk and associated ISPs around the Southampton region (Hampshire, UK) may be experiencing problems getting online or making phone calls this morning after roadworks accidentally damaged a major core fibre optic cable in the area.
