The Carphone Warehouse (CPW) recently suffered a massive breach of its customers personal data, which is believed to have potentially affected 2.4 million people, but not everybody seems to be aware of how this also affected other communications providers like TalkTalk.

The coverage of Sky Broadband and TalkTalk’s joint 940Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) broadband network in the city of York (Ultra Fibre Optic), which is being deployed with the help of Cityfibre, is continuing to expand and new coverage has recently been added to the project’s map.

Budget ISP TalkTalk has used a new YouGov survey to claim that consumers who pick broadband packages with a capped usage allowance risk excess data charges, which could be worth £140m across the industry. The provider wants rivals to BAN such products in favour of “unlimited” services.

Budget Internet provider TalkTalk appears to have responded to their rivals by offering 18 months of free “totally unlimited” Simply Broadband (up to 17Mbps) to new customers, although you still have to take line rental from the equivalent of £15.03 a month when pre-paid or £16.70 as a standard charge.

Comparison site Simplifydigital.co.uk has today unveiled the winners of their 2015 Customer Choice Awards, which saw most of the big broadband ISPs (except BT and EE) pickup wins across several broadband, phone and TV categories based on their levels of satisfaction. But sadly you won’t find any smaller ISPs listed.

Budget ISP TalkTalk will later this morning begin offering their ‘up to’ 38Mbps (2Mbps upload) capable totally unlimited “Superfast Fibre Broadband” (FTTC) service at the discounted price of just £7.5 a month for the entire duration of its 18 month contract term (£15 per month thereafter). Free connection and a £50 Love2shop voucher is also included.

The Citizens Advice agency has once again criticised the way in which some home broadband ISPs promote their services, such as via allegedly “hidden charges” like phone line rental, starter fees and router delivery costs.

ISP TalkTalk appears to have somewhat broken with tradition this morning by issuing a surprisingly vague trading update for the second quarter of 2015, which reveals very little except to confirm that the migration of Tesco’s broadband customers onto their network has “begun well” and should complete over the coming months.

A row over competition in the UK market for Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) services has erupted after broadband ISP TalkTalk accused Vodafone of “withdrawing entirely from the MVNO market“, which would seriously limit the choices for BT and EE’s rivals when hunting for an alternative supplier.

The Government is nearly ready to join with Rights Holders and four of the country’s largest broadband ISPs to kick off a major “multi-media education campaign“, which will encourage Internet users to “do the right thing” and use legal services instead of piracy. Warning letters (email alerts) will also be sent to some broadband subscribers.

UK ISP TalkTalk has announced that their Plus TV bundle of unlimited broadband, phone (anytime calls), premium TV (YouView) and a free mobile SIM, which is priced at £10 per month and comes with a £75 Love2shop voucher, now also includes 6 months of free HD access to video streaming service Netflix (until 30th July).

A new report claims that around 7 out of 10 Sky Broadband customers have enabled the ISPs network-level filtering (Parental Controls), which was enforcedly introduced last year by all of the largest broadband ISPs to help block “adult content” from young eyes. Sadly it doesn’t always work as intended.
