A few months ago TalkTalk accused Vodafone of “withdrawing entirely from the [Mobile Virtual Network Operator] market” (here) and today we learn that Sainsbury’s, which entered into a similar MVNO agreement in 2013, has been unable to reach a deal for continued service.

The on-going attempts to turn BT into a pinata continue this week as both Vodafone and Sky (Sky Broadband) have taken another opportunity to prod the telecoms giant ahead of Ofcom’s Strategic Review decision, with one demanding a national Gigabit broadband network and the other attacking the operator’s excess profits.

It’s become increasingly difficult this year to describe TalkTalk as a “low cost” broadband provider, what with so many sharp price rises stealing our headlines. But now customers are about to lose yet another benefit with the ISP quietly moving to scrap their 10% Speedy Payment Discount.

Internet content firm AOL (Huffington Post, Buzzfeed etc.) has entered into a new partnership with broadband provider TalkTalk, which should improve the content available on the ISPs website portal. Not too difficult then.

TalkTalk’s plans for launching a new home broadband ISP router with small cell based 4G (LTE) femtocell technology inside, which could help to cut mobile costs and boost indoor network coverage, continue to show huge promise, but we’re unlikely to see a final product anytime soon.

Low cost ISP TalkTalk will today reduce the cost of their ‘up to’ 38Mbps capable unlimited “Superfast Fibre Broadband” (FTTC) package to just £5 per month for the entire 18 month contract term (£17.50 per month thereafter). A free connection and “Super Router” are also included.

As expected Sky Broadband has today echoed last week’s news from TalkTalk (here) and Cityfibre, which confirmed that the first trial customers are now live on their joint “ultrafast” 940Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) network in the city of York (North Yorkshire).

As expected TalkTalk has confirmed that the first trial customers are now live on their joint 940Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) broadband network in the city of York, which is being built alongside Sky Broadband and Cityfibre. An early 2016 commercial launch has also been set.

The telecoms regulator has published its latest quarterly report into the volume of complaints experienced by all of the United Kingdom’s largest broadband, phone, mobile and TV providers. As usual the news is good for some providers (e.g. Sky Broadband, Virgin Media) and bad for others (e.g. EE).

The Institute of Directors (IoD), INCA and Self-Employed & Freelancer Association (IPSE) have today joined Sky (Sky Broadband), TalkTalk and Vodafone in a new open letter that calls for the telecoms regulator to subject BT to a competition probe, which could result in the operator being split up.

Budget ISP TalkTalk has reduced the cost of their ‘up to’ 38Mbps (2Mbps upload) capable unlimited “Superfast Fibre Broadband” (FTTC) service to just £5 a month for the first 6 months of service and then £10 per month for 12 months (£15 thereafter). A free connection and £50 Love2shop voucher are also included.

Sky Broadband appears to have quietly unveiled the pricing for their forthcoming “Sky Ultra Fibre Optic” service in the city of York (England), where they’re working alongside Cityfibre and TalkTalk to roll-out a new 940Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) network. Oddly, line rental still exists.

It’s not been long since TalkTalk announced their last batch of price rises in April 2015 (here) and the bad news is that they’ve today hit customers with a second hike, which will take the standard price of their entry-level broadband package from £5 to £7.50 a month and push line rental from £16.70 to £17.70.
