Analysts Find Gaps in Mobile Signal on London to Edinburgh Train

Mobile network analysts at Streetwave have published the results of a new survey, which examined the mobile signal quality on the London (England) to Edinburgh (Scotland) train route. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the route was found to suffer from various “not-spots“, while EE’s network performed the best for mobile broadband.

Three UK Continues to Deliver Fastest 5G Download Speeds

The latest data from Ookla, which runs the popular Speedtest.net service, has revealed that mobile network operator (MNO) Three UK is still beating rivals at Vodafone, O2 (VMO2) and EE (BT) for average median 5G broadband download speeds – scoring 275.85Mbps (Megabits / sec) in Q1 2023. Roughly double their nearest rival.

Some Virgin Media UK Users Can’t Load Popular jQuery Library

Several of Virgin Media’s (VMO2) UK broadband ISP customers, both on their business and residential connections, have reported that the provider appears to be blocking or incorrectly routing calls to load the popular jQuery library (code.jquery.com) – this is used by many websites, including this one, for some processes.

Ofcom UK Name Shell Energy as UK ISP with Most Complaints in Q4 2022

The latest Ofcom study of UK consumer complaints for Q4 2022 has, once again, named and shamed Shell Energy for attracting the most consumer moans about both home broadband and landline phone services, while BT did the same for Pay Monthly Mobile services and Virgin Media for Pay TV.

Survey Claims Brits Would Rather Give Up Booze and the Gym than WiFi

A new survey of 2,000 UK adults, which was conducted by broadband ISP Virgin Media (VMO2), has found that respondents would rather give up booze (33%) and the gym (36%) than be without WiFi, with 98% stating they rely on broadband every day and 47% saying it’s vital they have a connection for the entire day.

Mobile operator Three UK appears to have been one of the worst affected yesterday after many of their customers (including yours truly) did NOT receive a notification during the Government’s nationwide test of their new Emergency Alerts service, despite using supported kit. Topping the table were texts from criminals posing as someone’s mum or dad.

A new study from economic consultancy firm Fideres has accused UK telecoms regulator Ofcom of “tacitly allowing” TalkTalk, Virgin Media (VMO2) and other voice-only landline providers (e.g. SSE) to overcharge consumers by up to £200 million since 2009 (£100m by TT, £50m by VMO2, and a further £50m by smaller providers).
