Mobile Infrastructure Operators Setup New UK Infrastructure Forum

The four key organisations that help to build shared mobile network infrastructure in the UK, including Cellnex UK, Cornerstone (O2 and Vodafone network sharing), Mobile-Broadband Network Limited (EE and Three UK network sharing) and the Wireless Infrastructure Group (WiG) have today launched the Mobile Infrastructure Forum (MIF).

IX Wireless Move Ahead with Broadband Rollout Plan for Tameside

Network operator IX Wireless, which is building a new UK fibre-fed fixed wireless broadband network – supported by ISP 6Gi (not related to 6G mobile technology), appears close to expanding their existing roll-out into Tameside (Greater Manchester) after it applied to Oldham council for 29 poles to be installed, each 15 metres high.

Mobile operator O2 (Virgin Media) has signed a new multi-year partnership with UK tech charity Jangala, which aims to help get thousands of people affected by data poverty online by introducing free WiFi hotspots via the roll-out of 5,000 broadband-enabling “Get Boxes” to homes, community centres, refuges, and homeless shelters.

Ofcom Summer 2023 Study – Full Fibre Broadband Covers 52% of UK

Ofcom’s summer 2023 study of UK fixed broadband and mobile coverage has reported that “full fibre” (FTTP) now reaches 52% of the UK (up from 48% in Jan 2023), while 75% are within reach of a gigabit-capable network (up from 73%) and 76-85% of premises can get an outdoor 5G signal from at least one operator (up from 73-82%).
