New research from Point Topic has revealed that global fixed broadband lines grew by 1.46% or 22.42 million in Q3 2025 (up from 1.12% in Q2 2025) to total 1.56 billion connections. The subscriber growth rate of “full fibre” (FTTP/B) networks also remained strong in the UK at almost 7%, but this is down from 11.7% in Q4 2024.

The SIM-only UK mobile provider spusu, which holds a virtual operator (MVNO) agreement via BTWholesale to harness EE’s national 4G and 5G network, has today confirmed that it will continue its existing price freeze for the third consecutive year until at least 2027.

The Cambridge Broadband Networks Group (CBNG), which develops network tech for mobile and wireless broadband operators, has launched the latest generation of their Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) platform – VectaStar NR. The new kit is said to be designed to “deliver ‘fibre like’ broadband [performance] using 5G-based technology … without the time, cost and disruption of fibre rollouts“.

Broadband provider VISPA has recently become subject to another “First Gazette notice for compulsory strike-off” (petitioner: HMRC) – as shown on the Companies House (CH) website, which follows both a significant delay to the publication of their latest accounts (CH’s website states their next accounts were “due by 31 January 2025“) and adoption of CH’s default address.

Clevedon-based broadband ISP Glide Group has today announced a new multi-year contract extension with the University of Exeter in Devon (England), which will deliver a “major upgrade” to their wired and wireless internet connectivity – focused upon the educational establishment’s student accommodation estate.

Alternative rural internet provider Voneus, which has deployed a mix of full fibre (FTTP) and wireless (FWA) broadband networks over some of Wales and England’s remote communities, has announced that they will make Netgem TV‘s new IPTV set-top-box and streaming service – PLEIO – available via new TV service bundles. The new kit features support for Freely‘s live UK V streaming service.

Network operator Dragon WiFi, which typically delivers a variety of broadband connectivity solutions across rural parts of South Wales and South West England, has informed the local authorities in Cornwall (England) that they’re willing to help set up temporary wireless internet solutions in areas that may remain disconnected following Storm Goretti.

Carlisle-based broadband internet provider Grain, which in July 2025 secured a £225m funding boost (here) and has so far extended their point-to-point full fibre (FTTP) network to cover 270,000 UK premises (aiming to reach 600,000 in the future), has refreshed their packages for 2026 and launched optional WiFi Extender and Static IP enhancements.

The telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has this morning confirmed that the United Kingdom will become the “first country in Europe” to adopt a proposal that allows low power indoor WiFi signals and outdoor mobile broadband (4G, 5G etc.) networks to “share” access to the Upper 6GHz radio spectrum band (6425 to 7125MHz).

Literacy Capital (BOOK) has announced that it has sold its stake in Managed Internet Service Provider Wifinity, which typically specialises in deploying WiFi style broadband networks to UK businesses and consumers, to European-focused infrastructure fund Arcus Infrastructure Partners. Under the terms, £15m will be received in cash at completion, with a further £400k expected around the end of 2026.

The Government has announced that South Western Railway (SWR) has launched a new one-year trial to deliver faster onboard WiFi (wireless broadband) for people travelling on journeys between London Waterloo, Portsmouth Harbour and Weymouth in England. The effort should complement recent work to deploy a new track-side fibre and 5G mast network (here).

Some 46,000 consumers have been given extra time to resolve connectivity problems with their Energy Smart Meters, which were previously at risk of losing 2G based mobile data connectivity to the Data Communications Company‘s (DCC) wide area network on 1st January 2026. But Ofgem has now extended the service coverage until 1st June 2026.

A new piece of “research” from Broadband Genie has claimed that Christmas trees can slow your “internet speed” via WiFi by up to 88%. This is said to be due to how the tree’s “pine needles, branches, fairy lights, tinsel, and baubles can absorb and deflect your router’s Wi-Fi signals“, causing it to “slow and reduce its range” throughout the home. But it’s not always that simple.

Telecommunications infrastructure provider and licensed UK retail service provider Teleauora has revealed that they’re seeking new powers from Ofcom to help provide customers with “gigabit-capable fibre and wireless” broadband services – focusing on residential homes, offices, and business estates, in rural and urban areas across the UK.
