Alternative network (altnet) provider Wessex Internet, which has built Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) and Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband services across rural parts of Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, is set to launch a new range of faster services and cheaper pricing on 1st April 2021 following a major package refresh.

Alternative UK ISP Call Flow Solutions has decided to adopt the same branding as its sibling, Trooli, which is currently rolling out a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband service across rural parts of Kent and East Sussex in England. New regions are also being targeted for their network expansion.

Rural focused FTTP broadband ISP Gigaclear, which aims to cover 500,000 UK properties with their full fibre network by the end of 2023 (here), has boosted its deployment plans by opening a new office and warehousing facility in Swindon – designed to support its HQ, act as a central distribution hub, and supply its workforce.

As expected Openreach (BT) have today confirmed that the cathedral city of Salisbury in Wiltshire has just become the first location in the UK where the operator has stopped selling copper based broadband ISP and phone services, which means that new orders or upgrades on their network can now only be provisioned with FTTP.

Network builder Cityfibre UK have just kicked off the construction phase of their £40m project to deploy a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTH) broadband network across the Wiltshire town of Swindon, which is being supported by civil engineering firm VolkerSmart Technologies.

Cityfibre UK has today revealed the first solid details of their plan to deploy a new “gigabit-capable” Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTH) based broadband ISP network across the towns of Slough (Berkshire) and Swindon (Wiltshire), which will involve a commercial investment of £24m and £40m respectively.

Openreach (BT) has today announced that they’ve “fully fibred” the cathedral city of Salisbury in Wiltshire (England), which means that 22,242 premises in the area can now access their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network and 800 premises have already upgraded; the work only took 12 months to complete.

UK ISP Giganet today appears to have become one of the first providers to reveal how much they will charge at retail for Openreach’s new 550Mbps and 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband tiers, which are due to go live from 23rd March 2020. But there’s a catch.. the pricing is currently only for homes in Salisbury.

Cable broadband ISP Virgin Media UK has completed their community driven project to roll-out a 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across 12 rural villages in the Test and Dun Valleys of Hampshire and Wiltshire, which since starting in 2018 (here) has now covered a total of 4,000 local homes and businesses.

Ofcom has today implemented softer rules to support Openreach’s (BT) IP (VoIP) and FTTP UK migration trials in Salisbury and Mildenhall (here), which aim to test the processes for moving customers off older copper broadband ISP and telephone services. Discounts and a new bulk migration process are part of the changes.

Ofcom has announced that they will test a softer approach to UK telecoms regulation on Openreach’s new FTTP broadband Exchange Upgrade trial in Salisbury (Wiltshire), which is testing how the operator will in the future handle a complete migration from copper to “full fibre” lines.
