In an expected development, broadband ISP Zen Internet has confirmed that they’re “working towards” launching packages based off Openreach’s latest 1.2Gbps and 1.8Gbps speed full fibre (FTTP) products in the “coming months“, with some customers being told by the provider’s support teams to expect this in “April/May“.

Broadband ISP Zen Internet has furnished ISPreview with a small update on their efforts to make their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband packages available – nationwide – across CityFibre’s entire UK network, which was previously due to complete at the end of 2023.

The CEO of nexfibre, Rajiv Datta, has revealed in a new interview with the CEO of ISP Zen Internet, Richard Tang, that they intend to roll-out their full fibre (FTTP) broadband network to “more homes in 2024 than any [other] altnet” and will shortly pass 1 million homes. But Virgin Media (VMO2) remains their only ISP, for now.

Rochdale-based ISP Zen Internet has notified some customers about a network migration that will result in them being assigned a new Internet Protocol (IP) address or addresses, which for most users should only result in a brief service disruption and no major changes. But for a few customers it may be a bigger problem.

The CMO of full fibre operator CityFibre, Dan Ramsay, has today told the CEO of ISP Zen Internet, as part of a new interview, that they expect that the c.100 alternative broadband networks in the UK market today to eventually become one single operator. Ramsay separately denied that there had ever been talks of a merger with Virgin Media (VMO2).

Benchmarking firm Opensignal has today published a supposedly “definitive” study of fixed broadband speeds across the United Kingdom, which reveals which ISPs are delivering both the best service quality and speeds to consumers. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the table ends up being topped by CommunityFibre, Virgin Media and Hyperoptic etc.

Rochdale-based ISP Zen Internet has revealed that they’ve finally completed their exchange rollout (unbundling) programme, which means that over 80% of the United Kingdom should now be within reach of their cheaper on-net based Ethernet (leased lines) and broadband products (e.g. FTTP).

A new study by Uswitch, which adopted a Flesch–Kincaid readability test to examine the Terms & Conditions (T&Cs) of all the major UK broadband ISPs, has concluded that Sky Broadband’s terms are the “trickiest” for customers to understand. On the other hand, Plusnet’s terms were found to be the “most straightforward“.

A new survey of 3,975 UK people who had a contract for a home broadband ISP in December 2022 and January 2023, which was conducted by Which?, has found that 53% have experienced “connection issues” in the past year (e.g. very slow speeds, connection drop-outs etc.) and Sky Broadband were the worst offender.

We’ve lost count now of how many times ISPreview has had to say this over the years, but there are still far too many broadband ISPs in the UK – particularly larger players – that fail to clearly inform their customers of how much their package will cost post-contract. As a result, consumers often feel misled when it comes time to re-contract.
