Cheshire-based ISP Vispa appears to be on the road to putting right some of the problems that have recently afflicted its 60Mbps (Megabits per second) capable City Wireless broadband platform and have today re-opened the network for new installations following some improvements.
In February 2013 we reported that Vispa’s City Wireless network in Burtonwood, Winwick and Chapelford (Warrington, England) had hit a few snags due to some technical faults and an issue of capacity, or lack thereof (here). Sadly the work to install a new fibre optic backhaul link took longer than expected (several months) and as a precaution the ISP chose to suspend new installations.
But at the end of last month Vispa’s solicitors finally managed to overcome some delays with the necessary legal paperwork and confirmed that work to install the new link could now begin, albeit still subject to another 30-60 day wait.
In the meantime Vispa noticed that the network has “actually been pretty stable over the past couple of months” and began a secondary measure to relay the existing backhaul links (Manchester to Winwick & Chapelford) via their new high-rise site. The work was also intended to improve capacity, support the new fibre link and generally seems to have had the desired effect.
Vispa City Wireless Statement
“We are pleased to announce that the suspension on new wireless broadband installations has been lifted in Burtonwood, Chapelford & Winwick. All customers have been sent an email invitation and SMS message to book your installation. The lead time is currently 7 working days.”
It’s still not clear precisely when the new fibre link will be complete but at least Vispa can now get back to taking on new customers.
