Sky Broadband UK Breaks the 4 Million ISP Subscribers Milestone

Thursday, Jul 26th, 2012 (9:37 am) - Score 724

BSkyB (Sky Broadband) has today released its latest results to 30th June 2012 (Q2), which saw it add +138,000 new home broadband customers in the quarter (down from +212k in Q1) and reach the milestone of 4,001,000 internet access customers.

Sky are also still working to expand the coverage of their unbundled (LLU) broadband network to reach 88% of the UK by June 2013 (this currently stands at 83% via 1,965 telephone exchanges). Unfortunately Sky didn’t specify how many of their customers had chosen to take their new Sky Fibre superfast broadband service, which would have provided for an interesting insight.

Sky’s CEO, Jeremy Darroch, said:

We have delivered record financial results after another year of strong operational growth. Our consistent approach of investing where it matters most to customers and improving efficiency behind the scenes is working extremely well.

In what remains a tough economic environment, customers are choosing Sky over other providers. We’ve continued to add new households and existing customers are remaining loyal and taking more products from us. More than 9 million homes are now choosing to watch their TV through Sky+, we’re helping more customers to save money in home communications and innovative services like Sky Go are adding even more value to their subscription.”

Elsewhere Sky’s Line Rental service grew by +187,000 to reach 3,563,000 and their Telephony (voice) products grew by +141,000 to hit a total of 3,768,000. Some 32% of Sky’s subscribers also take a triple-play bundle of TV, broadband and talk services (up from 27% one year ago).

Finally their Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) per year increased to £548 from £538 one year ago and Churn slowed to 9.9% from 10.4% over the same period.
