Consumer site Expert Reviews has today revealed the winners of their annual ‘Mobile Network Awards 2022’ event, which surveyed their readers in an effort to identify the top performing UK mobile operators across a range of different categories. This year saw Smarty being named as the best overall mobile operator.
The results stemmed from a reader questionnaire, which was conducted by YouGov during mid-September 2022 – based off a sample of 4,445 UK people (of which 4,374 owned a mobile phone). Each respondent was asked whether they would recommend their network to others, and to rate aspects of their customer service and network performance on a scale from “Not At All Satisfied” to “Very Satisfied.”
Respondents were also asked about their experience of using 5G, with nearly 45% now using 5G services at least some of the time. EE has been consistently highly rated for 4G and 5G service by its users in previous years, so it’s no surprise that it took the top spot in the inaugural Best 5G award this year.

Of EE’s 5G customers, 19% said they were very satisfied with their 5G service, while a further 45% were fairly satisfied. In comparison to EE’s 64% approval rating, only three of its rivals reached overall customer satisfaction levels of over 50% (Vodafone, Three UK and Sky Mobile, with 51%, 52% and 56% respectively).

With unrestricted tethering *ONLY* in the UK? In GiffGaff you can tether within the EU too.
You can tether up to the EU cap of 12GB. giffgaff also has a data cap in the EU and a 256Kbps speed cap in other non eu countries
Switched to smarty after giffgaff bumped up the prices. Paying 5 quid per month is the best
Switched from giffgaff a while back when giffgaff jacked up their international call rates. I didn’t realise that I would take 4G voice calling, Wi-Fi calling and 5G for granted…. which still isn’t readily available for people on giffgaff.
Switch to Lebra paying 1p a month for 6 months then £6.90 a month for 12gig data unlimited calls and texts and you can use to 12gig in the EU for no extra cost.
They’re putting a TON of effort into Smarty. Forget GiffGaff, O2 is on its knees (take the hint guys: O2 won nothing) and even GiffGaff prices cannot compete with Smarty.
Smarty(3UK) is installing loads of street-side monopoles everywhere for 4G+5G
Smarty gives you WiFi Calling (Apple iPhone) Not sure about Android???
Smarty gives you VoLTE calling and seems some areas have 700Mhz (indoor band) in play.
Smarty credit/allowances remain until used-up by the customer
-Does seem to be 180 day min topup requirement (dormant accounts can be closed I guess)
Give SMARTY a go!
NB: Always get recommended by someone when you join SMARTY, both get £10 Amazon/Uber gift
WiFi Calling, SMS via WiFi, VoLTE, etc, are available for Android phones too.
It’s the best MVNO if you want to have all (or at least most) perks of the main networks without any long term contracts or high prices.
The downside is that in some areas Three’s 4G is slow, but that too is changing as Three deploys more and more 5G.
I use smarty, no problem here, works fine, my only worry is if Vodafone and three merges.
I used Smarty and everything was perfect especially when you go abroad. I moved to Lebara because international calls included.
