Nexfibre appoints new Director of Corporate Strategy for UK broadband network

Nexfibre Q4 2025 UK FTTP Build Map

Network operator nexfibre, which shares some of their parentage with Virgin Media (harnessing the same build teams) and have deployed their full fibre (FTTP) broadband network to cover 2.6 million UK premises, has created a new ‘Director of Corporate Strategy‘ post and appointed Colin Rand to take on the role.

Regular readers might recall that nexfibre’s main FTTP deployment into new areas has effectively been stalled since the start of this year. But their recent £2bn deal to acquire rival altnet Netomnia will expand coverage to reach 8m premises by the end of 2027 and also see them finance the upgrade of 2.1 million homes covered by Virgin Media’s old Hybrid Fibre Coax (HFC) broadband network (i.e. those that are “adjacent” to the Netomnia footprint); provided it all gets past the competition regulator’s review (here).

NOTE: Virgin Media and giffgaff are currently the only big retail broadband ISPs on nexfibre’s network.

As part of this change nexfibre also needed somebody to help define their future strategic priorities and direction of the business, which is where Colin Rand’s appointment to the role of Director of Corporate Strategy should come in handy. Colin has over 20 years of experience advising boards, executive teams and PE investors across the telecoms, business services and technology sectors, having previously worked at A.T. Kearne and the NCC Group.

The nexfibre role hands Colin responsibility for creating and managing a range of projects across all aspects of the business. “The role will lead our assessment of the highly dynamic market landscape and will be a key member of the team analysing and executing inorganic M&A and joint venture opportunities,” said nexfibre.

Colin Rand said:

“I am delighted to join nexfibre as Director Corporate Strategy. nexfibre is building the scaled national wholesale fibre network that the UK market has long needed.

Very much looking forward to working with Rajiv Datta, Giles Rowbotham and the team to help shape how that story unfolds.”
