Mobile operator Orange UK (Everything Everywhere) has admitted that an unspecified “configuration change” was responsible for yesterdays sporadic national outage of its Mobile Broadband (3G) services. The issue, which lasted most of the day for some customers, did not appear to affect T-Mobile’s shared network and was finally resolved during the early afternoon.
A statement given by Orange to the BBC said: “Orange customers who had an existing data session did not lose their connection and were able to continue as normal but a small number experienced issues in making new connections.” As usual the definition of “small number” remains somewhat open to interpretation, especially when talking about an operator that has millions of subscribers.
Many customers remain frustrated that Orange still do not provide a service status page and thus only learnt about the issue through media reports and Twitter updates. As a result one customer has even established their own page to help others: http://orangeservicestatus.co.uk.
