BT Retail informs ISPreview.co.uk that the super slow bug, which caused some BTInfinity superfast broadband (up to 38/78Mbps) subscribers with the ISPs HomeHub3 (HH3) router to experience sub-1Mbps speeds when using a wired/LAN connection (wifi was unaffected), is now being fixed with a new firmware update.
ISPreview.co.uk first raised the problem on 19th June 2012 after several customers contacted us with concerns (here). It soon became clear that the issue had been impacting subscribers for several months and the ISP had, until now, chosen to resolve it by dispatching engineers to replace both the HH3 router, Openreach VDSL modem and reset the customer’s line profile.

Since then BT has spent the past month developing a fix (here) and today confirmed that this solution is now officially being rolled out to the ISPs HomeHub3 routers.
A BTRetail Spokeswoman told ISPreview.co.uk:
“We started to rollout the new hub firmware last week. This firmware contains the fix for the Infinity low throughput issue. We expect the vast majority of Infinity customers to be updated before the end of July and all hubs by mid-August.”
The new SP12 firmware revision (V100R001C01B031SP12) appears targeted towards BTInfinity’s HH3 Type B routers and initial feedback suggests that it does indeed resolve the problem for those affected, though feel free to comment below if this has not been your experience.
In the meantime those affected should either reset their router (a temporary fix as the problem comes back quite quickly) or consider switching to a wireless network (wifi) until the update is applied.
