Customers of Sky Broadband in northern England and southern Scotland (e.g. Cumbria, Lancashire, Dumfries and Galloway etc.) were left without internet access for several days between Friday and Sunday after an unspecified “daisy chain outage” hit several telephone exchanges on the ISPs network.
The “major outage“, which also appeared to disrupt telephone services, is believed to have started at around mid-afternoon on Friday 5th April but some customers suggest it may have started even earlier. Customers also complained that Sky took almost 24 hours to acknowledge that there was even a problem on their service status page.

Thankfully the problem, which ultimately affected the Stranraer, Newton Stewart, Dumfries, Dalbeattie, Castle Douglas, Wigton and Carlisle areas, has now been resolved. Several angry topics can be found about the incident, including this one on Sky’s Support Forum.
