The incumbent ISP for Hull and East Yorkshire in England, KC, has revealed that the roll-out of its new superfast fibre optic (FTTH and FTTC) based Lightstream broadband service has expanded to reach more than 20,000 homes and businesses in the region.
At the last count in April 2013 (here) KC said that it had managed to make its new service available to 17,000 premises in the region (3,600 subscribers) and it aimed to expand this out to around 30,000 by the end of 2013 (the end goal is 45,000 by March 2015). The latest data suggests that the operator remains broadly on-track to hit its next target.

In related news the Nottinghamshire-based network design and engineering firm that KC has been using for its fibre roll-out, Light Source, has recently created six new local jobs to help with the project and more are expected to be added before the end of this year.
Steve Hill, Managing Director of Light Source, said:
“Because our engineers are out and about working on the network every day, we’ve seen first-hand how positive people are about having access to superfast broadband. It would be great to have more local people on the team to play a part in creating the legacy this investment represents.”
The Lightstream packages typically offer speeds of up to 350Mbps (Megabits per second) via KC’s top-end Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) solution and up to 80Mbps where their slower FTTC service is used (note: KC’s network is separate from BT’s). However KC’s home packages are usually offered alongside speeds of between 50Mbps to 100Mbps.
Meanwhile KC has recently added a new “unlimited” broadband package to its phone and internet bundles, which costs £44.99 per month (includes line rental) and includes a free router, unlimited data usage, unlimited anytime UK calls and 180 minutes of calls to UK mobiles. The TV (YouView) service can also be added for an extra £12 a month.
