BTOpenreach has announced that it will soon reduce the minimum lead time for new orders of their Self-Install (PCP Only) superfast broadband Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) product from 7 to just 5 working days, which mirrors the existing Managed Install (engineer visit required) option.
The self-install solution was officially launched at the end of last year (here). Consumers who adopt this via their ISP can benefit from a lower setup cost (£49 +vat) and do not require an engineer to visit their home, although they might lose a little performance by not having the product professionally setup. Instead the subscriber is sent a special filter that can simply be plugged into their phone line (similar to an ADSL Microfilter).

Today’s adjustment means that new orders should, subject to “order types and copper appointment book lead times“, take between just 5 and 13 working days to complete instead of between 7 and 13 working days before. The adjustment will become effective for all new orders made from Monday 2nd June 2014.
