Mobile operator and ISP EE (Everything Everywhere) has announced that their recently unveiled TV (IPTV) service (Smart Box worth around £300), which is free for new and existing mobile customers who also subscribe to their Home Broadband plans from £9.95 a month (details), is now available via EE’s stores nationwide.
The service, which is designed to compete with the TV products being offered by rivals BT, TalkTalk, Virgin Media and Sky Broadband, uses EE’s own IPTV platform (i.e. not YouView) and has some advanced features (e.g. the ability to Replay the last 24 hours of TV from specific channels, Record multiple channels at once, Multiscreen streaming to other devices and advanced navigation through a special mobile or tablet app).
It’s also worth remembering that customers on existing pay monthly mobile plans who also sign-up for EE TV and Home Broadband will receive a boost to their 4G data allowance, increasing to 10GB (GigaBytes) or 20GB depending on their plan.
Pippa Dunn, EE’s Chief Marketing Officer, said:
“Customers can now go into any EE store nationwide and sign-up for the UK’s most advanced TV service. With EE TV, we have combined our expertise in mobile and home broadband to develop a game-changing home TV service that you can watch on your smartphone and tablet, as well as your telly.
EE TV offers exceptional value for money, is simple to set up and use, and comes with market-leading features which really do allow customers to create a unique personal viewing experience.”
Sadly there still doesn’t appear to be any clear way to order the product or any premium content for it via their website, which is rather irritating. But we’re sure they’ll solve that soon enough.
