UK ISP iDNET, which tends to be quite highly rated by its subscribers, has today launched both a new website and a new range of unlimited broadband packages, including a number of affordable options for home users. The move marks a shift away from the ISP’s history of capped allowances.
Apparently some of iDNET’s existing subscribers can also expect a free upgrade to the new and more flexible packages, which still appear to include many of the same features that made the original service so popular (e.g. static IPv6 / IPv4 addresses, free UK technical support, shorter contracts and a low latency + maximum throughput guarantee).

The new packages come with line rental included by default (normally £16.80 inc. VAT per month), although the option does exist to take broadband without line rental (i.e. you still need line rental, but must instead get it from a different provider).

The “fibre broadband” packages will generally be provided over Openreach’s FTTC technology, but iDNET states that “in some cases” they will be delivered over FTTP and in those situations a 1TB (1000GB) download usage limit will apply; service speeds of up to 330Mbps download / 30Mbps upload will also be available to FTTP areas (i.e. Openreach’s UK coverage of 330,000 premises). An excess bandwidth charge of £1.20 per GB applies to any usage over the monthly allowance.
Migrations are free, although for new connections (or changes from ADSL to Fibre / Fibre to ADSL) there is a discounted activation charge of £30.00 if taking with iDNET’s phone line service, which rises to £60.00 for the broadband-only options without line rental. However the packages do NOT include a free wireless router.
We should point out that iDNET also offers a range of leased line and high-capacity wireless broadband connections for businesses, not to mention various VoIP / SIP solutions and free UK calling packages.
