Cable provider Virgin Media has today decided to significantly slash the cost of their superfast and ultrafast solus (standalone) broadband packages for the first 12 months of service, but the new prices will only be available to order until 30th January 2017.
The new discounts on their 50Mbps, 100Mbps and 200Mbps standalone packages aren’t quite as dramatic as the ones we saw during last year’s Black Friday event, but for new customers they do come quite close. The other difference to note is that Virgin Media has now included their ‘Gamer’ package in this round of discounts.
Otherwise all new customers are subject to a 12 month contract and receive a free SuperHub wireless router, unlimited usage, free access to Virgin’s WiFi hotspots (e.g. London Underground Stations), free Internet security / Parental Controls and free email. A £14.99 one-off activation applies and some people may also be charged £40 for standard installation.

At present Virgin Media’s cable (EuroDOCSIS) broadband and TV network covers a little over half of UK premises, albeit mostly in urban areas. However their network is expected to reach around 60-65% of the UK by 2019, including 2 million lines via FTTP.
