Broadband ISP BT will today soft launch a new range of “flexible” TV packages on 24 month contract terms, which gives subscribers a choice of content bolt-ons that can easily be changed. As part of that the platform has also completed its promise to fully integrate Sky’s NOW TV service via a single bill.

Prices for the new flexible TV packages, which will be fully launched on 21st February 2020 and come with BT’s YouView (IPTV) powered set-top box, start from £10 per month and give customers the flexibility to upgrade or downgrade month-to-month (online or via the My BT app).

NOTE: At the same time as NOW TV is made available via BT TV, Sky will be offering BT Sport directly to Sky customers from 21st February.

The integration of NOW TV also means that customers can now watch, pause, rewind and record premium Sky Entertainment and Sky Sports content on the BT TV platform. Integrated voice (via Amazon Alexa enabled devices) and text search also exists across all channels.

BT will be running a special launch promotion for customers taking the new flexible packages, offering them “Superfast Fibre” (FTTC/P broadband + phone) and the new “Entertainment Package” from £37.99 per month. We should also add that all five of their new primary pay TV packages (see below) come with the AMC channel, exclusive to BT, as standard.

The New BT TV Packages and 30 Day Bolt-Ons

Entertainment (£10 pm) Offering the latest award-winning entertainment and Sky originals from channels including Sky Atlantic and Sky One, plus over 300 Box Sets on demand, all from the NOW TV Entertainment Pass.
Sport (£15 pm) All 4 BT Sport channels, with exclusive Premier League games and every match of the UEFA Champions League with the best world-class sport from football to UFC and much more.
Big Entertainment (£20 pm) The latest award-winning entertainment and Sky originals from channels including Sky Atlantic and Sky One with over 300 Box Sets and all Sky Cinema channels with over 1,000 movies on demand and over 40 new movies added every month from NOW TV.
Big Sport (£40 pm) The best of BT and Sky Sports. All 11 Sky Sports channels, bringing you the Premier League, Formula 1®, golf majors and much more with the NOW TV Sky Sports Pass. Plus, watch all 4 BT Sport channels, with exclusive Premier League games and every match of the UEFA Champions League with the best world-class sport from football to UFC and much more from BT.
VIP (£60 pm) For those who want everything TV has to offer and more. The latest award-winning entertainment and Sky originals from channels including Sky Atlantic and Sky One, all Sky Cinema channels with over 1,000 movies on demand, the biggest live events on 11 Sky Sports channels, all in full HD, from NOW TV. Plus, watch all 4 BT Sport channels with exclusive Premier League games and every match of the UEFA Champions League in HD and access to BT Sport Ultimate in up to 4K HDR

Customers can then add to their flexible TV package with the following 30-day bolt-ons:

  • NOW TV Sky Sports Pass (From £9.99. Daily, weekly and monthly passes available)
  • NOW TV Sky Cinema Pass (£11.99 pm)
  • NOW TV Entertainment Pass (£8.99 pm)
  • BT Sport (£15 pm)
  • BT TV Kids (£5 pm)
  • HD & 4K (£5 pm)
  • Amazon Prime Video (Six months on us*, then £5.99 pm)
  • Netflix (from £5.99 pm)
  • NOW TV Kids (£3.99 pm)
  • NOW TV hayu (£3.99 pm)
  • NOW TV Boost (£3 pm)

Marc Allera, CEO of BT Consumer, said:

“Life doesn’t stand still from month to month, so we don’t believe our customer’s TV should either. Our new range of TV packs bring together the best premium services, fully loaded with a wide range of award-winning shows, the best live sports in stunning 4K and the latest must-see films – all with the flexibility to change packs every month – with quick and easy search to find what you want to watch. So now with a click of a button you can take out the Big Sport package to catch the top Premier League fixtures one month and swap it for VIP for a rainy school holiday with the family the next.”

At some point this year, probably sooner rather than later, we are also predicting that BT will add Disney+ content and launch a new WiFi equipped set-top-box with HDR support (original news). Sadly there was no announcement about those today and so the wait goes on.

UPDATE 21st Feb 2020

Just for reference, here is how much BT Sport will cost on Sky:

* Sky Sports and BT Sport: £35 per month alongside their Sky TV subscription, the new package combines all the sport from Sky Sports and BT Sport and saves sports fans 35% on standalone monthly subscriptions.

* Sky Sports and BT Sport, plus Sky Entertainment: all the great sport from both Sky Sports and BT Sport, plus award-winning entertainment and thousands of shows on over 300 Sky TV and 40 catch up channels with Sky Entertainment for just £47 a month – a saving of over 40% on standalone monthly subscriptions.

* BT Sport: £25 a month to bolt on BT Sport to an existing Sky TV package.

it appears to me that bt just want to become an app carrier for everyone else and not carry any channels themselves vh1 and universal gone with no replacements . full now tv , netflix, amazon and disney+ ,soon the channels that these people own will disappear too and go behind the apps.i cant afford to pay for these ontop of bttv. i think bt will lose a lot of tv customers this year . a new pvr is due out soon ,hope you can record more that 2 channels at a time and connect to more that 1 box with the mobile app ( youview app ceasing end of march with no replacement in site )

Grumpy -BT have been building long term to be a super aggregator of content in order to Wholesale services. The NowTV deal evolves this and adds TV channels to the service.

You comment that channels will disappear – What channels do you think will go ? Not sure any will go myself outside of seeing Disney scaling back some deals from Sky channels..

The comments about VH1 and Universal seem a little off since these channels have been decommissioned across the UK (and other providers like Sky/Virgin) also lost them.

YouView app comment – Have you tried the BT TV app? It offers the functionality of the YouView app and with a whole lot more (live TV channel streaming and VOD/Catchup).

I know loads of people will find something to moan about, but I am actually excited about this news as having the Now tv content integrated into the guide will finnally allow me to record F1 and NFL. If anything this deal and upgrade will make me less likely to leave BT to join Sky. Let’s just hope the new box is coming soon as currently the brilliant 4K HDR of the app needs come quickly to a place where we can record it.

National Geographic network is part owned disney,so may go behind disney+ , universal tv is/was part owned by sky owners comcast so closing it down and only having a crime channel on sky .i have one bt tv box and one youview BUT i can only set a remote recording on 1 box via bt app so it was handy having the youview app to set the other

Don’t Sky offer IPTV (live television channels and their Q service via the internet/Fibre) in places like Italy. Can’t BT offer TV over FTTP and allow people to get crystal sharp TV without an aerial/satellite?

If BT offered FTTP TV with the whole Max package about for £50 a month, then it would be on to something and gain market share from the likes of Sky/Freesat etc. Vodafone do TV over FTTP in Ireland.

    1. Avatar photo Scotty says:

In theory BT could do this – the original TV Connect platform is scalable to support channel growth.

Whether or not the financials would add up to deliver this is another thing. Outside of costs to scaling up bandwidth for BBC and ITV variations there would need to be an additional update on channel provisioning to identify locale.

BT may look at this long term but short term there’s no requirement when the existing TV/Radio mast network do this for them.

    2. Avatar photo Tom says:

The Subscription/Premium Channels offered by BT are already streamed over the internet using the same technology, its only the standard freeview channels which rely on a TV Aerial

  5. Avatar photo Gallagher Premiership at a decent price plz! says:

This looks very good. The ability to have amazon, netflix, sky including sky Atlantic and bt sport that you can cancel when the season isn’t on for a reasonable price is quite unique. Especially when you consider it costs £25 a month just for the bt sport app. I would probably jump at this but I’ve recently dumped my openreach broadband which was slowly dieing for 4G and I assume you’ll need bt broadband to take advantage. Hurry up openreach FTTP!

On the flip side surely this is one part of a deal with sky that will allow bt sport to be hosted on it at a more reasonable price.

But if existing customers switch to the new package we will lose Eurosport. Admittedly I only watch it for the winter sports but still a pain…

  7. Avatar photo paul says:

looking for to bt sport on nowtv that’s for sure

  8. Avatar photo DJBenson says:

Does the Now TV integration rely on BT for billing or is it/can it be tied into their existing subscription model (whereby you can often pick up cheap deals online and add to your existing Now TV subscription)? Much in the same way as Netflix and Amazon Prime subscriptions are handled by the respective providers (understand that BT and Sky can “roll up” your bills but you can log in with your current subscription too). That would be enticing.

  9. Avatar photo Ian says:

This service would save me money compared to the sky subscription I have. The only issue I have is that there is no multi box option.

  10. Avatar photo Bob says:

If i have the BT recordable box with Sky Movies, can i record a movie to watch later, asking as BT have told me i cant. So a bit confused. Help appreciated.

Plus is it true i can downlosd 1000’s of movies.
