Gigabit broadband ISP Hyperoptic, which has an ambition to cover 2 million UK premises with FTTB / FTTP by the end of 2021 and then 5 million by the end of 2024 (mostly in urban areas), has strengthened its executive team by appointing industry veteran Peter Ryan to be their new MD of infrastructure.

At present the provider’s network is already known to cover well over 400,000 premises, which mostly tends to reflect those who live in large apartment blocks (MDUs) – these are typically a lot quicker and cheaper to serve with a “full fibre” network than individual houses.

Ryan has 20+ years’ experience in network deployment across the world and previously served as Chief Network Engineering Officer for the National Broadband Network (NBN) in Australia, where he scaled the network operations from 2.4 million active premises to 6 million active premises in 2.5 years. He has also held senior positions in Vodafone UK, including Head of Service Operations.

Dana Tobak, CEO of Hyperoptic, said:

“Peter is a strategic recruit. He is renowned for successfully scaling networks and this experience will be invaluable as we fast track our rollout across the UK. I am delighted to welcome him to the executive team.”

Meanwhile the wait continues for Hyperoptic to flesh out their future rollout plan.

I’d have left his involvement of the NBN out, Australia’s broadband is horrific.

NBN Australia, Vodafone UK, this doesn’t bode well…

Well they must be planning something dramatic if they are hiring at this level!

As I always say to those who find the time to click on a news item that doesn’t interest them, read the item that doesn’t interest them and then comment on the item that doesn’t interest them.. just to say it doesn’t interest them 🙂 .

You’re on an information site that is dedicated toward covering all things broadband and mobile related, both for the industry and consumers alike. We’ve worked this way for 20 years and if you aren’t interested then don’t read the story.

Nbn in Australia has failt to rollout ftth and fttp so Australia bye bye fibre UK is going to be the same.. I hope that Diana Tobak current cwo knows about this currently happening in AU so UK is under theat of rollout of fttb ftth or fttp I think is gong to be fail in UK as AU

I’m still waiting for my installation since March, so I guess any change is welcome.
Hyperoptic “forgot” to wire up my flat initially, mistaking it for belonging to another property in the same block.
When I signed up in March this year, it was going to take 10 days to run about 15m of cable from their Huawei router on the outside wall to my flat, it’s now been six months.

      That is unusual for them.

There have been some growing pains as they scale. Hopefully they recognise that small is beautiful and keep their engineering units small enough for them to be accountable and efficient.

They still have our building on the map as installation agreed since about January 2018…

The reality is they have no plans but don’t update the coverage maps
