Business ISP MLL Telecom has been awarded a new contract to further extend the gigabit-capable EastNet Full Fibre Network WAN service, which will see them connect an additional 20 public sector sites across Northamptonshire in England.
At present EastNet is one of the UK’s largest Public Sector Networks (PSN) and serves over 15,000 related employees. MLL was first appointed in 2018 to upgrade and extend this infrastructure in order to enable Full Fibre WAN (Wide Area Network) services, including gigabit internet and public wifi. The migration of all existing EastNet connections to Full Fibre was successfully completed in June 2020.
Meanwhile today’s news follows a joint initiative by East Northamptonshire Council and the Borough Council of Wellingborough to join the EastNet partnership, which comprises Councils and Health Trusts across Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes (various public sites have been connected to this network including schools, NHS trusts, libraries and council offices etc.).
Shaun Ledgerwood, CEO of MLL Telecom, said:
“We are very pleased to see East Northamptonshire Council and Borough Council of Wellingborough joining EastNet so soon after MLL’s successful overhaul and upgrade of the existing WAN infrastructure to Full Fibre. Their support is further testimony to the success of the EastNet partnership as well as the trust placed in our managed network services – this all bodes well for the continued expansion of the network in the future.”
Stephen Hills, CPSN/EastNet Service Manager, said:
“This new initiative will allow many more council employees to use high-speed internet for accessing a range of next generation digital services. It is in line with EastNet’s policy for improving the productivity and convenience of council staff and local communities.”
MLL Telecom intends to carry out the extension of the EastNet WAN service over the next 3 months.
