The large market town of High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire (England) has been named as the next to benefit from CityFibre’s rollout of a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network. The local build aims to “reach … almost every home and business” in the town and is being supported by a £23m investment.
Construction work on the new full fibre network is currently set to begin next month (June 2022) around the West Wycombe area, with Instalcom being appointed as build partner for the project (CityFibre also works with them in Reading and Luton etc.).
One catch is that High Wycombe has quite a lot of activity from gigabit-capable rivals. For example, Openreach and F&W Networks all have active FTTP builds in the town, while Virgin Media (VMO2) are also present. Swish Fibre also has a very active build in nearby Hazlemere, although it’s unclear whether they’ll push into Wycombe.

Neil Madle, Area Manager, said:
“The next chapter in High Wycombe’s story starts here. Our builders will soon get to work on a town-wide full fibre network – and we think people will be blown away by the difference it will make, both now and for generations to come. We cannot stress the importance of digital connectivity and the major benefits it will reap now and long into the future and can’t wait for residents and businesses to enjoy the results.”
Once again, this deployment will form part of the operator’s wider £4bn investment project, which has so far enabled their full fibre network to cover 1.5 million UK premises – with 1.3m ‘Ready For Service‘ via a supporting ISP (here). The main aim of this build is to cover up to 8 million premises – across around 285 cities, towns and villages (c.30% of the UK) – by the end of 2025 (here).
Can cityfibre first dory out fttp roll-out they started in Jennetts Park BRACKNELL first as my property is still not eligible for 1Gb roll-out that they started in our estate last year. As soon as they hit issues they left. Now I don’t trust them with any roll-outs.
