Sky Mobile UK Celebrates 3 Million Customers Milestone

Sky (Sky Broadband, Sky TV) has today announced that their Sky Mobile service, which is an O2 (VMO2) powered Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), has reached the major milestone of 3 million customers and is now the “fastest growing mobile provider in the UK“.

On the surface, Sky Mobile’s plans might not seem as attractive as those of some other operators, and they lack an unlimited data plan. But they make up for that in other areas. For example, there’s a commitment to make no mid-contract price rises and flexibility to change your plan whenever you like.

Customers can also roll over any data they don’t use and store it in a piggybank for up to 3 years with the option to use it later, share with family and friends or exchange for rewards. According to Sky Mobile, on average Brits have 44% of their data left over at the end of every month and could thus save an average of £7 per person per month with the operator, due to their ability to roll spare data.

Paul Sweeney, MD of Sky Mobile, said:

“At a time where we are all trying to alleviate financial pressures, it’s more important than ever to ensure your mobile contract provides good value. We should all be checking our contracts to ensure our mobile provider is giving us the flexibility to evolve as our needs do.”

In case anybody has forgotten, Sky’s mobile service originally launched at the very end of 2016.

Not bad, especially as they often have an offer for a extra 100mb SIM either free or £2pm which gives unlimited calls and then you can use piggy bank to give it data

I get leaflets almost every other week about Sky mobile, then the back of it about Sky broadband TV. Too many leaflets these days with Zzoomm sending one out a week at least.
A couple of days ago I had 5 leaflets about different things. I thought we were supposed to be saving paper.

We had SKY mobile for years. It was very good. We had to switch in last few months though as SKY are being let down by useless VM02 data which lately fails to load more times than not anywhere where there are people around! SKY should consider moving to Vodafone or something else when their carrier deal comes up IMO

The data rolling concept works well, the downside is that the over saturated O2 network is so bad in our area (Camberley/Bagshot and surrounds), that you can’t get through it!

Sure, using Sky Go won’t eat up data either, but seeing as I can drive around Surrey and Hampshire and barely get enough bandwidth to see any picture, it’s a gimmick. The WiFi calling doesn’t work consistently either, just look at the list of complaints on the Sky Help forum.

I doubt we will see them drop below 3 million, but our 4 sims are leaving shortly.

More strain on the already over subscribed O2 network. Wouldn’t recommend O2 on my worst enemy!

Totally agree O2 not great, they need to get 5g rollout sorted. 5g seems to me a bit like 3D Tvs were when they first came out a great idea but very little program rollout and now dead. between Glasgow and Edinburgh approx 35 miles is like no mans land with 5g. all the big boys want us to buy 5g phones at extortionate prices with no 5g service available in lesser towns.

      @DoubleAgent2022

Would only recommend to a double agent or Jeremy Corbyn.

@Crakayl – While you would expect the new 5G masts to help with O2 issues…. they don’t very much.

They can make the service usable but hardly any better.

      Officially left O2 today.

so o2 is the new three. who would have thought!!!!!

O2 is the new Three, but with worse plans.

02 data is shocking. In Plymouth for example never works within a mile of city centre. Went to North Wales in the summer and only had signal for less than an hour of the week I was there! Also struggled in Cardiff and Torbay. Since switching to Vodafone based network not had any issues at all.

My husband is with them. They’re no bother. 02 signal is great where we live so we can’t complain

He was with SMARTY but in May I took out a deal with them when they offered the £6 SIM on a 12 months package with the first 5 months free. We’ve literally just started paying the £6 now and he’s got 6GB stored up already as he hardly uses any data. If, after the 12 months he’s not happy we will move but we’re going to the States in May next year and they are £2 a day for roaming in the USA using your existing allowances, so I think we’ll stick with them until after that holiday

I hope Sky mobile could increase speeds on the 02 network similar to EE network more customer would join Sky Mobile.
Some household have data speeds less than 5mb download speeds and less than 2 mb up load speed.
I hope Sky could move to the EE network to increase speed or ask O2 and Virgin group to improve their networks to take the network to EE levels.

    1. Avatar photo Bubbles says:

that’s really not how MVNOs work… They buy access to the network and then sell it on to their customer base. Sky’s best interests would be to move to Three or Vodafone tbh.

To provide balance, Never have a problem with Sky Mobile around Norfolk, except when with 27000 other people at Norwich City Games, where obviously no spare capacity!

  11. Avatar photo Me says:

I wouldn’t touch them with a thousand foot barge pole! Poor services and poor reliability. Oversubscribed O2 network so you can’t use the internet. I suspect the only reason they went with O2 was because they pouched one of O2’s directors to Skys board.

I’ve been with sky over 25 years on and off me and my mum and other family members. I’ve been this guy for the last 10 years and they’ve always been helpful. Even sent the engineer out without charging me, but this year has been the worst for me as I’ve lost family members last year and my animal and basically I ordered a sky glass TV Internet and mobile everything went through the credit check credit card past. I told them I haven’t got any photo ID They said that should be okay but they were really really busy and I was going on a bit because of my mental health. I’ve just lost it a little bit I came to get my mobile not because they needed photo ID I kept telling DPD after the second time not to come back because it’s just stressing me out my mental health isn’t good and they kept going back to the door so I rang up a complaint over 30 times after the first time I told him I didn’t have a photo ID now they kept sending me emails saying I’ll be back out tomorrow to deliver it. They come out over the Thursday and I said do I haven’t got a photo ID and he got a bit of a face so I got in his face and I did not his cap off because a neighbour has been winding me up for donkeys years, and they making my mental health worse by having 12 birds in his house which made lots of noise and then just bullying me basic one year I had a barbecue I need to put his washing out so I got beat up of one of his mates stood up to 5 of them and it without winding me up and the guy talks took the brunt of it and that I didn’t hit him. I did not hit out. That’s one thing I didn’t do This guy I’ve said I’ll kick me off the sky glass me back on but I can’t be paying too much money out with their people struggling there at first. They offered me a £35 iPhone 14 and a £2 in card with ultimate data and Texas on both a to get data on 100 MB on the other on the contract 8 GB and just because I haven’t got photo ID I have other ID I have Best of pets I have utility bills what you can open a bank account up with O2 which I’ve been with for years but I was trying to get a better deal. I’ll just have to stay with them and go back to get a contract with them, so I’ll just have to leave it, but they’re making people like that. I couldn’t really talk like a moment after that it that bad and I was suffering with schizophrenia That is so stupid they should not push people buttons and that’s not sky that’s them giving the orders to the delivery company, but the delivery company not listening to me. I am not a violent person, but I’m having someone speaking down to me when my sugars are going low and suffering really bad with my mental health Your sincerely craig
