Broadband ISP, TV and mobile provider Virgin Media and O2 (VMO2) have today announced that they intend to create around 200 new graduate, intern and apprenticeship roles across the UK in 2024 (starting salaries go up to £35,000 per year), which is down from the c.350 they pledged to create during 2023.
The new positions are being created to cover a variety of different roles, such as in field engineering (i.e. keeping customers connected by installing and fixing products in homes) and finance. The roles, which are all entry-level permanent positions and pay between £22,500 and up to £35,000, are primarily expected to be available in London, Reading and Manchester.
Karen Handley, Head of Future Careers at VMO2, said: “It’s wrong that many talented young people are being overlooked for entry-level roles because they don’t have prior experience – it’s creating unnecessary barriers for people starting out in their career. At Virgin Media O2, we believe in creating opportunities not obstacles, hiring based on potential with no prior experience or CVs needed for any of our early career roles.”

The operator has so far created more than 2,300 apprenticeship roles since 2008. At least that’s the figure on their website, but it’s out of date (unchanged since last year) and is probably closer to 2,600 now.
its a great spin, sack off a load of overpaid wasters, re hire younger cheaper people and spin it as a news story…

Are these actually new jobs or just new, lower paid roles replacing departures elsewhere in the business? Is VMO2’s total workforce actually getting larger?
