Customers of broadband ISP BT, specifically those who still use their email service (BT Mail), are this morning reporting login problems when trying to access their accounts via webmail. But access is currently still working for those trying to access the service via the App or third-party email clients, such as Outlook Express and Thunderbird etc.
The issues appear to have started after 8am this morning and a brief service status report (credits to Thinkbroadband) on BT’s website states: “We’re aware of login issues with BT Mail on webmail and you may not be able to login until this is resolved. We’re working to get them sorted as soon as possible. You can still access BT Mail via the App or other clients such as Outlook Express.”
Customers who ran into this issue today reported seeing a “too many requests” error when attempting to login to their emails. But the good news is that BT’s support teams are just now reporting that the problem “has now been fixed“.

Microsoft doesn’t make or support Outlook Express anymore. Shows how behind the times BT are and people who would actually use Outlook Express.
Some people, even in the IT world, believe that MicroSoft are the only people who make, create computer software. They think outlook excess is the only mail client and all the rest are just different iterations of Outlook Express.
What a load of rubbish. How can BT control what email software someone chooses to use.
What they meant by “Outlook Express and Thunderbird etc” was that IMAP and POP3 were still working, but avoided using the proper terms as Average Joe wouldn’t get it.
The ‘new’ version of the customer version of BT mail, especially as ‘webMail’, I find is not as good or as user friendly as last years offering. I do wonder if this a means of persuading the customer to move to another provider?
As always it’s best to use an email provider that’s independent of your ISP (Gmail/Hotmail etc).
100%
100%, always keep services separate. Never use an ISP provided email address as when you cancel that contract the email address will usually also be cancelled.
Not forgetting of course nearly everyone with an android phone will already have a Gmail address anyway.

If you leave BT you can keep your email address but they’ll charge £7.50 a month for the privilege.
Outlook Express no longer exists, but there is a replacement for it called OE Classic.
