Mobile and broadband provider Vodafone (VodafoneThree) has today confirmed to ISPreview that they’ve finally deployed and activated a new mobile mast to help fix the problems in the Pembrokeshire (Wales) seaside town of Tenby (here). Locals have been suffering from months of poor signal since the old mast suddenly vanished at the start of 2026.
Regular readers might recall that we ran a lengthy report on the situation in the town last month, which has long had difficulties with mobile reception. But those problems got significantly worse after the shared mast site (O2, Vodafone and EE) – positioned closest to the town centre (eNB 10402) – vanished in January 2026. A situation not helped by the lack of clear and accurate communications from the supporting mobile operators.
ISPreview’s investigation found that the mast in question, which was managed by Cornerstone (the network sharing Joint Venture between Vodafone and O2), had to be decommissioned due to health and safety concerns. The wooden pole (mast) had become rotten and thus dangerous, hence the need for its removal.

Sadly, the delay in deploying a replacement mast left many locals to suffer around five months worth of mobile connectivity problems, which was only slightly improved by some of the measures mobile operators took to try and address the resultant coverage gap. The good news today is Vodafone has confirmed to ISPreview that the service is now “restored in Tenby” (picture of the new mast).
Local MP Henry Tufnell said:
“Success! We are getting Tenby connected.
After taking your concerns directly to Vodafone, they carried out works on Monday to restore the signal lost from the Slippery Back Lane mast.
This happened because our community spoke up. You shared your experiences with me and helped show Vodafone just how urgent this issue was for our residents, businesses, and tourists.
It is fantastic news that this has now been resolved, just in time for summer!A big thank you to Vodafone for listening to the community and taking action.”
The mast went up last week and has since gone live over the past couple of days. Henry Tufnell MP is now said to be chasing EE for an update regarding their separate proposal to deploy a new mobile mast on Strawberry Lane in Penally. The minister has also opened up a survey to gauge the quality of mobile connectivity across the county (here).
Some feedback from ISPreview’s readers indicates that the replacement mast for eNB 10402 is currently serving Vodafone’s customers (and probably O2), although EE doesn’t yet appear to have re-activated their own service from the site.
Excellent to finally have the mast rebuilt and service restored after 5 months, but a real missed opportunity to implement some upgrades. They secured planning permission a few years ago to upgrade it to 5G and make it taller to improve coverage, so it’s crazy that instead they’ve just rebuilt it exactly as it was, restoring only the old weak congested 4G service. Why bother getting permission for the upgrade at all if they weren’t going to build it – even after they had to rebuild the mast from scratch anyway? Seems so counterproductive. Still, good to at least have some signal back at last.
And Vodafone at that… shame
