The Institute of Customer Service (ICS) has today published their latest biannual UK Customer Satisfaction Index (July 2022), which this time reports that Tesco Mobile (ranked 4th) was the only telecommunications provider to make it into their ranking of the top 50 organisations.

A new study of job listings on employment hunting site Indeed claims to have identified the top 25 UK industries most in need of workers, which among other things reveals that the telecommunications (broadband, Ethernet and mobile etc.) sector ranks 13th overall with 3,352 job listings. But Healthcare dominates.

Broadband ISP WightFibre, which is busy building a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to cover around 78,000 premises on the Isle of Wight by the end of 2023 (South Coast of Hampshire, England), has announced that they’ve just hit the 40,000 premises passed milestone (up from 35k in Feb 2022).

Aviva-backed ISP County Broadband, which aims to cover 500,000 premises in the rural East of England with their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network by the end of 2027, has today revealed that their company will become home to 270 employees by the end of this year (up from 170 today).

UK ISP Air Broadband, which offers ultrafast and gigabit speed internet access packages via various different Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) networks across the UK, has today become the latest provider to launch a low-cost social tariff for those on benefits – called ‘Air Support‘ – priced at just £20 a month.

The Scottish Government’s £28.75m 4G Infill Programme (S4GI), which is supported by WHP Telecoms and aims to improve rural mobile voice and data (broadband) coverage by building new masts (mostly in the Highlands and Islands), has officially reached the halfway point with 28 masts activated and 27 to go by 2023.

Derby-based communications provider E-volve Solutions has today revealed that it’s looking to expand their existing full fibre and fixed wireless access (FWA) broadband networks, which are currently focused on smaller firms in Derbyshire, to serve UK homes and other businesses in “rural areas” with “speeds up to 10Gbps“.

Some 150 businesses based on the Sci-Tech Daresbury site have become the first to benefit from a new 212km full fibre broadband and Ethernet network called LCR Connect, which is being built as part of a £30m project backed by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, ITS Technology and NGE.

Network builder and UK ISP Zzoomm has today released their annual results, which among other things reveals that their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network has now expanded to cover 50,000 premises (up from 10,000 in Dec 2021) with 3,000 customers connected (up from 1,400).

The Scottish Government’s Cabinet Secretary for the Economy, Kate Forbes, has issued a brief progress update on their £600m Reaching 100% (R100) project with BT (Openreach), which is busy extending fixed “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) coverage – the vast majority of which is coming via FTTP – across rural parts of the country.

The Government has tonight announced that a joint £82m investment by the Departments for Culture (DCMS) and Education (DfE) will mean that, over the next 3 years, as many as 3,000 primary schools across rural England will now get access to broadband (full fibre) speeds of up to 1000Mbps.

The Communications Workers Union (CWU), which represents c. 40,000 staff at the UK telecoms and broadband ISP giant BT (inc. Openreach), has today – following a dispute over pay – voted to hit the operator with its first national strike in 35 years. Delays to service provision are expected, unless a last minute deal can be done.
