Virgin Media O2 Has Provided 550,000 UK People with Free Mobile Data SIMs

Mobile network operator O2 (Virgin Media) has revealed that their partnership with the digital inclusion charity, the Good Things Foundation, has so far helped to provide more than 550,000 UK people – those experiencing financial difficulties – with free mobile broadband data, calls and texts via SIMs supplied through the National Databank.

Hampshire-based alternative network toob, which has deployed their own gigabit speed full fibre (FTTP) broadband network across South England and also harnesses CityFibre’s network in other UK areas, has suffered a blow today after investor INPP “elected not to commit further capital” to the provider and handed most of its original £24.1m investment off to debt holders.

We’re playing late catch-up today with the latest company results for Rochdale-based ISP Zen Internet, which reveal that the venerable UK internet provider grew their broadband customer base to 225,000 at the end of Sept 2025 (up from 208k in 2024) and saw operating profit jump from £1.9m to £3m – partly fuelled by the sale of some IPv4 address blocks.
