Rochdale-based UK broadband ISP Zen Internet has today appointed Paul North as Managing Director (MD) of its Partner division. At the same time, Stephen Warburton, who previously ran Zen’s Partner division for over 20 years and was also holding responsibility for Zen’s Consumer divisions, will now be able to focus exclusively on the consumer side of things.

The Deputy CEO of national network access provider Openreach (BT), Katie Milligan, has warned that until “the market really stabilises” then they won’t be able to predict when their current broadband line losses to rivals will stop (Openreach lost 707k in 2024 and expects to lose about 900,000 this financial year).

Rural-focused broadband ISP and alternative network builder Wessex Internet, which is deploying a mix of full fibre (FTTP) and fixed wireless networks across Southern England, has today published their annual accounts to the end of 2024 and highlighted both their “best-in-class” take-up of over 30% and a 20.5% rise in revenues to £5.76m (2023: £4.78m).

Alternative network ISP Quickline, which is rolling out a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) and wireless (FWA) broadband network across rural parts of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire in England (3-Year Rollout Plan), has published their accounts to the end of 2024 and revealed revenues grew to £3.9m (2023: £3m). But they had an operating loss of £33.1m (2023: £28.8m).

The not-for-profit London Internet Exchange (LINX), which handles a large chunk of UK and global data traffic through their switches via around 900 members (broadband, mobile, CDN providers etc.), has celebrated achieving a “major milestone” after they deployed their 25th 400GE (Gigabits per second) port across their global network.

Education technology provider RM Technology and Sky Business Wholesale (Comcast) have signed a new partnership. The move aims to provide a fully resilient, high-speed connectivity solution for schools across the UK by leveraging Sky’s network to deliver a 100Gbps-ready, fibre-first network.

The Swansea Bay City Deal’s Digital Infrastructure Programme has today announced the completion of their £1.9m Full Fibre Infrastructure Build project with BT, which has helped to upgrade 69 key public sector sites with “future proofed” broadband connectivity.

The independent wholesale broadband and leased-lines aggregator, VeloxServ, has today announced that they’ve added Gigaclear’s rural full fibre broadband network to their platform as part of a new supplier partnership. The move gives partners (ISPs etc.) access to yet another alternative network, the fourth new supplier partner they’ve onboarded in 2025.

The UK’s largest alternative full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network, CityFibre, has today published their latest results and revealed that they now cover 4.6 million premises (4.3m RFS) and have seen record growth in customer connections, with 108,000 customers connected in Q3 2025 (up from 58k in Q2) to total 730,000.

Openreach has today notified UK telecoms providers that their SOTAP Analogue product will, following a “successful pilot” (here), get its full commercial launch on 28th October 2025. This is a phone line service that does NOT require broadband to work and will be targeted at vulnerable users who would otherwise struggle with migrating to an All-IP (internet) based phone service.

Alternative rural UK broadband ISP Airband, which has built a full fibre (FTTP) and wireless (FWA) network that covers parts of Wales and South West England, has shared a copy of their latest group accounts with ISPreview and revealed that they expect to reach EBITDA positivity in 2028. But the provider is still facing a “material uncertainty” over its funding.

Broadband, mobile and telecoms giant BT has today published a new economic modelling study from Assembly Research, which examines how the ongoing migration from legacy networks (PSTN/WLR, 2G mobile etc.) to All-IP (Internet Protocol) services could “deliver billions in benefits” (£3bn) to the UK’s critical national infrastructure sectors.

The CEO of BT Group, Allison Kirkby, appears to be gearing up for the government’s annual 2025 Budget announcement by complaining that the operator pays “10 times the amount our peers pay in countries like Germany and the Netherlands” on things like business rates, energy levies and other costs associated with regulation and compliance.
