Business broadband and communications provider TalkTalk Business (TTB), which in 2023 was demerged from the TalkTalk Group and sold to the same group’s own shareholders for £95m (here), has today announced that they’ve agreed to merge with technology services provider ARO to create one of the UK’s largest independent connectivity and managed service providers (MSP).

We’re playing late catch-up today with the latest company results for Rochdale-based ISP Zen Internet, which reveal that the venerable UK internet provider grew their broadband customer base to 225,000 at the end of Sept 2025 (up from 208k in 2024) and saw operating profit jump from £1.9m to £3m – partly fuelled by the sale of some IPv4 address blocks.

Mobile infrastructure firm Cornerstone (CTIL), which was originally established as part of a UK network sharing deal between O2 (Virgin Media) and Vodafone (Vantage Towers), has expanded their partnership with Telecom Infrastructure Partners (TIP) to improve how they manage and renew existing telecommunications site agreements (wayleaves etc.).

A new report has today claimed that Octopus Investments, via infrastructure investor Fern Trading, is on the verged of entering into advanced talks to acquire TalkTalk Group’s wholesale broadband and Ethernet business – PlatformX Communications (PXC). TalkTalk’s consumer business is also now said to be fielding interest from Opus Broadband, in addition to Vodafone and possibly others.

European satellite operator Eutelsat just published their results for the year ended 30th June 2026 and reported that their revenues from OneWeb’s constellation of ultrafast broadband satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) “beat expectations“, jumping by 69.5% to €297m (accounting for 25% of the group’s overall revenues).

Alternative network provider and UK ISP LightSpeed Broadband, which has built their full fibre (FTTP) network to cover 360,000 premises across the East of England and Midlands (36 towns), has reported their latest annual accounts to the end of December 2025 – revealing that they have 22,000 customers (May 2026) and revenues almost doubled to £4.21m (2024: £2.24m).

Alternative network builder and UK broadband ISP Fusion Fibre Group (formerly FACTCO), which has built their own full fibre (FTTP) networks across a number of rural communities, has suffered a blow after HMRC filed a winding-up petition against the business on 29th July 2026.

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) recently published several responses from BT (Openreach), Grain Connect, Sky Broadband and Hyperoptic to the ‘Areas of Focus’ document for their Phase 2 competition investigation of Netomnia’s proposed £2bn acquisition by the parents of Virgin Media (O2) and nexfibre. The early feedback provides some useful market perspective.

Multiple news reports appear to be indicating that the owners of UK broadband, mobile and TV provider Virgin Media (O2), Telefónica and Liberty Global, may need to execute a significant round of cost-cutting (e.g. job cuts, reducing capital expenditure and cutting dividends etc.) in order to get the company’s £22bn debt mountain under control.

Alternative network operator Netomnia (Substantial Group), which has so far expanded their full fibre broadband (FTTP) network to cover over 3 million UK premises (inc. 500,000 customers) and is in the process of being acquired by the parents of Virgin Media (O2) and nexfibre for £2bn, has reached an agreement over interim undertakings with the competition watchdog (CMA).

Broadband and mobile operator Vodafone (VodafoneThree) has this morning published their latest Q1 FY27 financial results. The figures revealed that they now have 1.866 million fixed broadband customers (up by 34,000 in Q1 2026 vs 64k in Q4 2025) and a combined mobile base of 27.987 million (down by -369k in Q1 vs -263k in Q4).

The latest Q2 2026 results from network operators Virgin Media and O2 (VMO2) have today reported a fall in consumer broadband customers of -28,200 to total 5,417,900 (vs -5.3k in Q1), while their mobile base declined slightly to total 46.428m (down from 46.44m) and outdoor 5G+ (5GSA) population coverage remains at 86%.

Telecoms giant BT Group just published a short trading update to the end June 2026, which reveals that Openreach lost a total of 192,000 broadband lines to rivals over the past quarter (improved from -203k last quarter). But their “full fibre” (FTTP) coverage grew to 23.4 million premises (up from 22.92m) and EE’s 5G+ mobile coverage reached 77% of the UK population.
