The TalkTalk Group has today issued a progress update on their ongoing demerger and refinancing efforts, which claims that “significant progress” has been made since their last update (Nov 2023) toward the separation of their network wholesale platform business (“PlatformX Communications“) and their residential ISP (“TalkTalk Consumer“).

Mobile operator Vodafone has today launched their “Connected Spaces Vision” plan, which offers unlimited data to business customers that need to live stream video from IoT smart surveillance cameras over a mobile broadband (4G or 5G) network. Civil engineering (utilities contractor) firm OCU Group appears to have established a new Stockport-based company called Artemis Fibre (15129999), which sounds as if it might be looking to deploy and operate its own UK full fibre (FTTP broadband, Dark Fibre and Ethernet) network to help serve the needs of their clients.

Ding, ding.. round two. News reports claim that Virgin Media (VMO2) has allegedly revived its interest in a takeover of budget broadband ISP TalkTalk. But this time they’re reportedly focusing much more specifically upon the internet provider’s consumer division.

The CEO of Vodafone Group, Margherita Della Valle, has revealed that their proposed mega-merger with Three UK (CK Hutchison) is being reviewed by the Government under the National Security and Investment Act 2021, which reports suggest is linked to CKH’s perceived ties to China and any potential risks of access to sensitive national infrastructure.

Broadband and telecoms giant BT Group has today posted a short trading update for the last quarter to December 2023, which reveals that Openreach expanded the UK coverage of their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network by another 950,000 premises (up from 860k last quarter) to total 13 million passed.

Network builder and UK ISP Vorboss, which is investing £300m to deploy a 100Gbps full fibre network (Ethernet and broadband) – dedicated to business – across central London, has today appointed Zayo Group’s former VP of European Corporate Development and Strategy, David Gilbey, to be their new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Broadband ISP and telecoms giant BT have today confirmed that they will recruit another 500 apprentices and graduates in 2024 (up from 400 in 2023) – forming part of their September 2024 intake. The roles will span across areas such as engineering (5G, FTTP etc.), customer service, applied research, data analytics and cyber-security.

The ongoing efforts by investment group Fern Trading (Octopus Investments) to consolidate all four of their alternative UK full fibre broadband ISP networks (here) – Jurassic Fibre, Swish Fibre, Giganet and AllPoints Fibre – has reached a critical point, with customers starting to be migrated to a central retail provider, Cuckoo.

In an expected development, the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority has today launched a formal Phase 1 investigation into the proposed mega-merger (here) between mobile operators Three UK and Vodafone, which will slash the number of mobile operators in the market from four to three and may impact upon competition, consumer prices, jobs and security.

CityFibre, which is busy rolling out a 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across the UK, has today celebrated reaching the £100m in revenue milestone in 2023. The operator also confirmed that their network now covers 3.5 million premises (3.2m Ready for Service) and has 337,000 live customer connections.

Broadband ISP, TV and mobile provider Virgin Media and O2 (VMO2) have today announced that they intend to create around 200 new graduate, intern and apprenticeship roles across the UK in 2024 (starting salaries go up to £35,000 per year), which is down from the c.350 they pledged to create during 2023.

Broadband ISP and network builder Airband, which originally aimed to cover 600,000 UK premises in rural areas via a mix of their wireless (FWA) and full fibre (FTTP) networks by the end of 2025, has revealed that it’s going through a “period of restructuring” after claims of redundancies and build pauses surfaced.
