Alternative network provider Airband, which has built a mixed Full Fibre (FTTP) and Fixed Wireless (FWA) gigabit broadband network across rural parts of England and North Wales, has confirmed to ISPreview that they’ve now “commenced a formal sale process” to try and find the right “long-term owner” for the business.

The latest annual ORESA Growth Index 2026 has just been published and this year’s edition includes five alternative full fibre broadband networks – Toob, Netomnia, Grain Connect, CommunityFibre and Fibrus. The full list ranks the UK’s 100 fastest-growing private companies by compound annual growth rate (CAGR) – those with at least £5m in recent sales.

Struggling Fife-based alternative broadband operator Gigaloch, which back in 2020 started building their own full fibre (FTTP) network across a few remote rural communities in West Cheshire (England) and parts of Scotland, has finally published their annual accounts to 30th Sept 2025 and revealed that they had to write off £1,575,090 due to a creditors’ agreement (CVA).

Communications and broadband provider BT Business (via EE) has today announced what they’re calling a “telco-world first“, which sees the operator join with IT and security software company, Ivanti, to unveil a new eSIM capability that enables businesses to turn-on mobile connectivity at scale without having to physically set up a device.

Alternative network provider LightSpeed Networks, which is the business and wholesale side of retail UK ISP LightSpeed Broadband and has already deployed their full fibre (FTTP) network to cover 360,000 premises passed across the East of England and Midlands (36 towns), has today announced the appointment of Matthew Partridge as their new Managing Director (MD).

The UK’s largest alternative broadband provider, CityFibre, has today announced that they’ve agreed a deal to sell their non-core off-net business, Entanet, to telecoms entrepreneur Tom O’Hagan, who is best known as the founder and former CEO of Ethernet provider Virtual1 (this became part of the TalkTalk group in 2022 – here).

National broadband access provider Openreach (BT) has revealed that they’ve signed a new partnership with EV charging company Source, which is jointly owned by SSE and TotalEnergies, to help support their transition to electric vehicles. The network operator will thus gain access to Source’s growing collection of “ultra-rapid charging hubs” across the UK.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has today announced that it will skip a Phase 1 review of the proposed £2bn acquisition (here) of alternative full fibre UK broadband operator Netomnia (Substantial Group) by nexfibre (Liberty Global, Telefónica and InfraVia), which will instead see them skip right to a deeper Phase 2 competition investigation.

Back in May 2026 we reported (here) that broadband ISP Virgin Media Business (VMB) were preparing to introduce new packages for small business customers that would offer symmetric speeds via their latest XGS-PON based full fibre (FTTP) network at speeds of up to 2Gbps (2,000Mbps). ISPreview has spotted that they’ve now quietly introduced the new plans.

Rural broadband ISP and alternative network builder Wessex Internet, which is deploying a mix of full fibre (FTTP) and fixed wireless networks across Southern England, has published their annual accounts to the end of 2025. The report reveals that revenues jumped by 47.7% to £8.5m in the year and their network coverage passed 66,000 premises.

American cable giant Comcast, which back in 2018 gobbled Sky’s pan-European TV and broadband ISP business with a bid of £30bn (here), has today announced that they intend to separate their media and technology businesses into public companies through a “tax-free spin-off” of NBCUniversal and Sky.

British telecoms and broadband giant BT Group has this morning announced that they’ve signed an agreement with Verizon Communications to combine their respective international enterprise operations into a 50:50 joint venture. Both operators will hold equal voting rights and Verizon has agreed to pay BT an equalisation payment of $625m (£473m).

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has announced that they will shortly reduce the Fixed Fee for Excess Construction Charges (ECC), which are sometimes charged when UK broadband or Ethernet deployments require extra civil engineering work. In addition, they’re also reducing the Connection Charges on Ethernet Access Direct (EAD) lines for businesses.

The Oldham-based Constant Group, which is a British single source solution provider for sheet metal fabrication – from telecom / broadband cabinets to POS displays, has secured a contract from Openreach (BT) to develop and deliver secure external enclosures as part of the operator’s nationwide Exchange Exit programme.

The ITS Technology Group, which has already deployed various open access and business-focused Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP / XGS-PON) broadband ISP and Ethernet networks across parts of the UK, has today announced that their full fibre infrastructure is to be extended into 13 additional towns and cities across England, Scotland and Wales.

Energy and communications provider Telecom Plus, trading as Utility Warehouse (UW), has today published their latest H2 FY26 Results to the end of March 2026 and revealed that their broadband ISP grew its total UK customer base to 568,647 (up from 561,086 in H1) and their mobile base grew to 787,426 (up from 698,054).

Clevedon-based broadband ISP Glide Group has announced that they’ve significantly extended their existing relationship with the university of King’s College London, which previously covered providing internet connectivity to student accommodation and campus-wide guest Wi-Fi. The communications provider will now also deliver a resilient, high-capacity managed Wide Area Network (WAN).
