Network operator CityFibre has today announced that the first customers have gone live on their new 10Gbps capable full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network in Hampshire (England), which is being built as part of their £104m state aid supported Project Gigabit contract (Lot 27) – this aims to reach more than 75,000 extra premises across hard-to-reach rural areas.

Several customers of UK ISP Sky Broadband have now informed ISPreview that the provider’s support staff have recently notified them about the launch, next month, of new WiFi Max hardware. This appears to reflect both the Sky Max Hub router and the Sky Max Pod WiFi extenders.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has declined to uphold a complaint against one of CityFibre’s direct mailing adverts for their new UK FTTP broadband network. The complaint was lodged by the BT Group after they suggested it “misleadingly implied there was no existing full fibre broadband at the address.”

Broadband ISP Lit Fibre, which now harnesses CityFibre’s national Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network (they originally ran their own UK fibre network – here), has refreshed their existing range of packages and also introduced new a range of “specialised” product packages called ‘Lit Ultimate’, ‘Lit Homeworker’, ‘Lit Family’ and ‘Lit Gamer’.

Hampshire-based ISP toob, which has deployed their own gigabit speed full fibre (FTTP) broadband network across parts of Southern England, have today announced that they’ve expanded the availability of their services – under their complementary partnership with CityFibre – to another 23 cities and towns across the UK.

Network operator CityFibre, which has so far built their 2.5Gbps speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover 4.4 million UK premises (4.2m Ready for Service), have today confirmed the completion of their “primary” £40 million build in the city of Dundee (Scotland).

A newspaper report has claimed that UK ISP Sky Broadband (Comcast) could have “tens of thousands” of customers on CityFibre’s alternative Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network as soon as May 2025. But the “full scale” roll-out is allegedly not expected to be completed until just a little later (H2 2025). Packages have yet to go live.

Network operator CityFibre has this morning announced their second recent acquisition of an alternative UK broadband provider, which will see them gobble Connexin’s growing 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in parts of East Yorkshire (Hull etc.), Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire (England). The financial details of the deal are not yet known.

In recent months’ we’ve been reporting on how Rochdale-base ISP Zen Internet has expanded the reach of their “full fibre” (FTTP) broadband network by signing wholesale access agreements with a number of alternative network providers, such as Trooli and Freedom Fibre. But their ambitions aren’t limited to retail packages.

For the second time this week (here), the Government (DSIT) has published another round of contract modification notices for several of Wildanet, Fibrus, CityFibre and Quickline’s state aid funded Project Gigabit broadband roll-outs across several regions – North Yorkshire, Cornwall, Cumbria, Suffolk, Hampshire and Norfolk. The tweaks change both the level of public funding and premises target.

UK ISP Virgin Media (O2) has become the latest broadband operator to join Lincolnshire County Council’s (LCC) interesting new Street Works Charter, which aims to help cut down on road traffic disruption by encouraging a more co-operative approach to street works between different companies (reducing unnecessary works).

Customers from a number of broadband ISPs on CityFibre’s national Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network – covering 4.3 million UK premises (4.1m RFS) – appear to be experiencing sporadic service issues this morning, which range from disconnection events to problems with high network packet loss and latency.

A new research note from James Ratzer at New Street Research has claimed that CityFibre, which have already deployed their full fibre broadband (FTTP) ISP network to cover 4.3 million UK premises (4.1m RFS), is making progress on their plans for future consolidation and already has “up to” 850,000 homes served by other alternative networks “under M&A exclusivity“.

The UK government has today set out its plan for increasing digital skills to help “deliver growth and opportunity for all“, which among other things includes various pledges from key ISPs and mobile operators (e.g. BT, CityFibre, Vodafone etc.) to help support the initiative and break down the digital divide that still exists for many people.
