CityFibre, which is rolling out a 10Gbps capable full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network across the UK, has published their annual accounts to the end of 2022 and revealed that their losses nearly doubled. But their network coverage also doubled to 2.2 million homes (RFS) and live consumer connections surged to 174k (up from 61k).

Network builder CityFibre has given themselves a pat on the back after trials of an enhanced platform “capable of true proactive fault repair“, which involved several broadband ISPs on their UK full fibre (FTTP) infrastructure, delivered an impressive improvement.

Mobile network operator and broadband ISP Vodafone UK has today added a second social broadband tariff for those on state benefits (e.g. Universal Credit), which is called ‘Fibre 2 Essentials‘ and costs a bit more than their existing ‘Essentials Broadband‘ plan, but will give you faster speeds of up to 73Mbps.

Network operator CityFibre has apologised to their business connectivity users in Leeds (Yorkshire, England) after their attempt to replace an old 288f fibre joint cable, which was due to be upgraded to 432f, resulted in a “significant number” of customers (e.g. Dark Fibre and Ethernet services) being hit by connectivity problems.

The Digital Connectivity Forum (DCF), an industry think-tank, has today announced that the UK’s largest mobile and broadband providers, including BT, Three UK, and Sky Broadband, among many others, have agreed to work together to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the telecoms supply chain.

As expect, CityFibre has today announced that they’ve officially made a new 2.5Gbps (symmetric) speed consumer UK broadband tier available at wholesale for their retail ISPs to sell on to customers, which harnesses the operator’s new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP / XGS-PON) network.

Network operator CityFibre has today announced that they’ve finally entered the construction phase of their £42 million project to deploy a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP / XGS-PON) broadband network across South Tyneside (Tyne and Wear) in North East England. The operator is already working in neighbouring Gateshead.

A new report from investment bank Numis, which was authored by analyst John Karidis, has today reiterated its sell recommendation on BT (inc. Openreach) and warned that the national broadband giant “keeps underplaying the risk” from rival alternative networks to its consumer and business units.

The UK Government’s £5bn Project Gigabit broadband rollout scheme has announced that CityFibre have secured three major build contracts for Hampshire, Norfolk and Suffolk in England. The combined award is worth £488m (£318m state aid and £170m private) and will see the operator extend 10Gbps capable FTTP to 218,000 premises (500k inc. commercial build).

Network builder and UK broadband ISP toob has today announced that their coverage via CityFibre’s existing Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network has been expanded again. This time they’ve moved toward East Sussex and are now becoming available to homes in Worthing, Brighton and Hove.

Broadband provider Yayzi appears to have quietly become the first ISP on CityFibre’s national Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to launch a symmetric speed 2.5Gbps package for UK consumers, which will set you back just £45 per month on an 18-month term (inc. free wireless router). Now that’s cheap.

Network operator CityFibre has today announced that they’ve secured enough legal UK land and property access agreements (wayleaves) to connect over 1 million homes owned by local authorities and housing associations to their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network.

Civil engineering firm VolkerHighways‘ has announced that their UK telecoms division, which is playing a role in the nationwide deployment of full fibre broadband networks (as well as potentially some 5G network infrastructure), has rebranded to VolkerTelecoms to help “simplify and strengthen the business“.

Broadband ISP Octaplus Networks has apologised after they left some customers on CityFibre’s UK full fibre (FTTP) network, specifically those who live in Chester and were being migrated from troubled provider ZYBRE (Air Broadband), without internet access due to an “unfortunate error” related to network availability.

Ofcom has this morning announced that it will NOT block Openreach’s proposed “Equinox 2” discount scheme for their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP products from being introduced, which came after rival networks raised competition concerns over the plans.

Low-cost UK broadband ISP TalkTalk has apologised after customers in two rural villages outside Warrington, which are being served by their older UltraFibreOptic (UFO) based gigabit FTTP network on CityFibre’s platform, were mistakenly told that their service was due to be disconnected.
