Some broadband ISP customers on Cityfibre’s national Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, which covers 4 million UK premises, are currently experiencing ongoing connectivity problems due to an unspecified issue that seems to only be affecting those that have one of Nokia’s Optical Network Terminals (ONT) installed inside their building.

Network operator CityFibre has this morning announced that they’ve begun the roll-out phase of their £108m state-aid supported Project Gigabit contract for the West & East Sussex (Lot 16 & 1) area in England. This will extend their 10Gbps capable FTTP broadband ISP network to an additional 57,000 hard-to-reach rural premises.

More than four thousand customers on CityFibre’s full fibre broadband network in the Northeast England city of York (Yorkshire and the Humber), which is used by lots of different ISPs (Vodafone, Zen Internet, iDNET, TalkTalk etc.), are this afternoon being affected by a major network outage.

The Government’s Building Digital UK (BDUK) agency recently revealed that their £114m (state aid) Project Gigabit broadband roll-out contract for Norfolk (Lot 7), which was won by CityFibre in July 2023 (here), has seen its scope expanded. As a result the public funding has been boosted to £128.8m and the targeted premises for intervention has risen from 62,282 to 75,587.

Network operator CityFibre has today announced that they’ve begun the roll-out phase of their £77m state-aid supported Project Gigabit contract for the Leicestershire and Warwickshire (Lot 11) area. This will extend their 10Gbps capable FTTP broadband network to an additional 45,000 hard-to-reach rural premises in those regions.

Network operator CityFibre has today announced that they’ve begun the roll-out phase of their £51m state-aid supported Project Gigabit contract for the Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire & Milton Keynes (Lot 12) area. This will extend their 10Gbps capable FTTP broadband network to an additional 25,000 hard-to-reach rural premises in those regions.

Internet provider Andrews & Arnold (AAISP) this month became the latest ISP to introduce symmetric broadband speeds capable of harnessing the top 2.5Gbps (2500Mbps) tier on CityFibre’s growing Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, which is currently available to around 4 million premises across the UK. But for now it’s only a trial with limited availability.

Internet provider Yayzi Broadband has been causing a spot of bother for quite a few of their customers this week after their plan to roll-out an “incredible network upgrade” resulted in a protracted period of service disruption as users were migrated, which saw broadband speeds plummet to single digits (Mbps), as well as other connectivity problems.

CityFibre has today announced that the first customers have gone live on their new full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network in Suffolk (England), which is being built as part of their £100m state aid supported Project Gigabit contract (Lot 2) – this aims to reach more than 79,500 extra homes and businesses across hard-to-reach rural areas of the county.

Network operator Neos Networks, which runs one of the biggest 34,000km long business fibre networks in the UK – spanning 550 exchanges, 90+ data centres and 676 Points of Presence (PoPs), has announced that they’ve expanded their strategic partnership with wholesale fibre optic FTTP broadband builder CityFibre to boost Ethernet availability.

Hampshire-based network builder and ISP toob, which has deployed a gigabit speed full fibre (FTTP) network across parts of South England, have today announced that they’ve expanded the availability of their services – under a strategic partnership with CityFibre – to include Lincoln, Loughborough, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Peterborough and Derby.

Network operator CityFibre, which has so far extended their 2.5Gbps speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover around 4 million UK premises, have today confirmed the completion of their “primary” £21m build in the large port town of Hartlepool in County Durham (England).

Energy and communications provider Telecom Plus, which trades as Utility Warehouse (UW), has today published their latest Half Year Results (H1 2025) to 30th Sept 2024 and revealed that their broadband ISP grew its total UK customer base to 384,890 (up by 10.09k since H2 2024) and their mobile base hit 526,167 (up by 59.95k).

Mobile operator and ISP Vodafone UK has today published their Q2 FY25 financial results, which reveals that their fixed line broadband base grew again to total 1.477 million customers (up by 50k in Q2 vs 44k in Q1) and their mobile base fell again to total 18.474 million (down by -93k in Q2 vs -71k in Q1).

Network operator CityFibre, which earlier this year announced the acquisition of Lit Fibre’s full fibre network (here), has today resolved the problem of what to do with that provider’s customer base by agreeing to sell the retail ISP side of the business to the company’s co-founders, Tom Williams and Ben Bresler.

CityFibre has begun the build phase of their £58m state-aid supported Project Gigabit broadband rollout contract for Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire & East Berkshire (LOT 26) in England (here), which will see them expand their full fibre (FTTP) network to cover 34,000 of the hardest-to-reach premises (150,000 if you include their complementary commercial build).

Eastbourne-based alternative network and UK ISP Lightning Fibre has announced that they’ve just connected their first customer in the seaside town of Worthing (West Sussex) to FTTP broadband. This is part of their recently agreed expansion (here) to harness CityFibre’s existing network across the Brighton & Hove and Worthing areas.
