Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) UK ISP Wildanet, which is currently building a new broadband network in rural parts of South West England, has begun offering businesses in Cornwall “guaranteed superfast broadband, with no payments in the first three months and a free standard installation” to help with the impact from COVID-19.

The Plymouth City Council (PCC) has announced that BT have been awarded the contract to install a new gigabit-capable “fibre broadband” network across Plymouth, South Hams and West Devon, which will use £2.2m of public funding to help connect 131 public sector sites (e.g. hospitals, schools, libraries and council buildings).

Full fibre UK ISP Jurassic Fibre, which aspires to cover 350,000 premises with a 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in South West England (here), seems to be making good progress and their first Optical Line Terminal (OLT) in Exmouth has just gone live (expected to serve 14,000 premises in the town).

Full fibre ISP Gigaclear has announced that their on-going roll-out of a 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in Essex (England) has now covered 10,000 premises, which includes 1,153 homes and businesses that were added in just the last month alone. A further 20,000 are due to be covered by December 2021.

Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) ISP Wildanet, which is working to extend their superfast broadband network to rural premises across parts of Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and possibly South Wales, has secured additional equity investment of £400,000 from the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Investment Fund (CIOSIF).

Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) ISP Voneus has acquired another rival broadband network called Rural Comms Limited, which until recently served a number of remote rural communities in parts of Devon and Cornwall (England) – mostly operating from Ivybridge and focused around Exmoor, Dartmoor and South Hams.

Full fibre UK ISP Jurassic Fibre, which toward the end of 2019 began to roll-out a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in South West England (here), has issued an update on their progress and to announce the next set of deployment locations in East Devon.

After another slight delay the Connecting Devon and Somerset project last week launched their new procurement process (previously due by end of 2019), which aims to find a supplier that can help them to roll-out “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) across the remaining poorly served homes and businesses in both counties.

A small but important update has just been issued, which confirms that UK rural “full fibre” broadband ISP Gigaclear has reached a settlement with the Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) project. As part of that the provider will continue a commitment to complete the work in areas that were started under the former contracts.

Rural full fibre broadband ISP Gigaclear has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that they are now in the final stages of piecing together the next phase of a revised commercial rollout plan for Devon and Somerset (England). Assuming all goes to plan then this could be finalised before the end of Q1 2020.

The troubled Connecting Devon and Somerset project has opened a public consultation on their recent Open Market Review (OMR), which examined the current and future level of “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) coverage in the two counties and set out a proposed intervention area, ahead of seeking suppliers for a new contract.

Earlier this year we reported that fibre builder Full Fibre Limited had tentative plans to expand a Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network (here) to reach “rural and semi-urban areas” around Devon, Surrey, Somerset, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire. The build is now underway.

Full fibre broadband ISP Gigaclear has today moved to remind everybody that the commercial rollout of their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in Devon and Somerset is on-going. The provider has just added a further 239 properties in the villages of Lympsham, Eastertown, Edingworth and Rooks Bridge.

The recent cancellation of UK ISP Gigaclear’s “full fibre” (FTTP) rollout contract under the Connecting Devon and Somerset project (here) has left many rural areas with concerns. As a result the Devon County Council has now moved to assure them that the roll-out of “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) is continuing.
