SSE Enterprise Telecoms has this morning announced that their UK fibre optic network will be extended to another 180,000 UK business post codes by unbundling 177 extra BT Exchanges. Apparently the operator’s 13,700km “dark-fibre like” network will also be capable of delivering up to 100Gbps to each exchange.

Alternative network ISP Boundless Networks has teamed-up with Networx3 to bring 1Gbps capable “full fibre” broadband and Ethernet services to businesses in the town of Haslingden (Lancashire, England), specifically those based on the Courtyard business site along Grane Road.

A team of German scientists have found that they can also be used to detect Earthquakes, as well as other seismic signals from hammer shots, passing cars or wave movements in the ocean.

Cityfibre has announced that two ISPs (Exa Networks and JSPC Computer Services) have been approved to provide education and business connectivity services over their forthcoming Gigabit capable fibre optic (FTTP / Ethernet) network in West Sussex, which is being built as part of a new contract with the county council.

UK ISPs Telcom Group and Pinacl Solutions have today announced that they’ve entered into an exclusive partnership, which will see the pair working together to bid on the government’s Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) contracts and to launch a new Gigabit fibre optic “hypercity” in Newport and Bristol.

BT claims to have built the UK’s “first practical quantum-secured high-speed fibre network“, which harnesses quantum encryption and can transfer data at a speed of 500Gbps (Gigabits per second). The network runs over a distance of 120km via multiple exchanges between BT Labs in Ipswich and Cambridge University.

Fibre optic network builder Cityfibre has today claimed to have won the first contract under the UK Government’s new £190m Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) challenge fund, which will see them working with West Sussex County Council to provide Gigabit FTTP broadband ISP connectivity to 9 urban areas within the council’s jurisdiction.
