The FTTH Council Europe has today published their latest forecast for the growth of “full fibre” (FTTP/H/B) based broadband ISP networks across Europe, which predicts that the United Kingdom will see a staggering growth of +488% over the next five years to achieve 25 million homes passed by 2026 (up from 7m by the end of 2021).

Over the past few years’ we’ve seen various alternative broadband providers set out grand ambitions for their “full fibre” (FTTP/B) networks, not least of which was Hyperoptic’s plan to cover 2 million UK premises by the end of 2021. But recent modelling suggests they’ve still got a long way to go.

Full fibre UK ISP Hyperoptic has today joined CommunityFibre in support of the Barnet Council‘s existing Gigabit Broadband Programme in London, which means that a further 4,100 homes (social housing) will shortly be connected to its network, and they’ll provide over 20 free connections to community centres, and libraries etc.

City focused ISP Hyperoptic, which is building a new gigabit-capable FTTP/B broadband network across parts of the UK (mostly for large residential buildings / MDUs and office blocks), will today launch a new “flash sale” that runs until 12th September 2021 and offers some big discounts on their 30Mbps, 50Mbps and 150Mbps packages.

City focused broadband ISP Hyperoptic, which is building a new gigabit-capable FTTP/B network across large UK residential buildings, office blocks and some houses, will today introduce a new 24-month contract term option to complement their existing monthly (30 day) and 12-month terms. The advantage is a lower price.

Full fibre broadband ISP Hyperoptic UK has secured new partnership agreements with Birmingham Council and the City of Wolverhampton Council in the West Midlands of England. A new report from the Independent Networks Co-operative Association and Point Topic has estimated that alternative “full fibre” (FTTP/B) broadband ISPs grew their UK coverage by 110% in 2020 (up from 52% last year) and cover 2.586 million premises – such providers now aspire to cover 29.9m by the end of 2025.

The FTTH Council Europe has published their annual 2021 market panorama, which ranks the countries with the strongest subscriber penetration of “full fibre” (FTTP/H/B) based ultrafast broadband ISP networks. The good news is that the UK has continued to show strong growth, but we remain stuck at third from the bottom.

The latest research from Point Topic has found that world fixed broadband subscribers grew by 1.6% (18.59 million) in Q4 2020, which is down slightly from 2.07% in the previous quarter but still pushes the overall total to 1.18 billion. Meanwhile, the UK reported the strongest quarterly “full fibre” (FTTP) growth of any country on 28.6%.
