Digital Region ISP Origin Broadband Launches up to 100Mbps Service

Origin Broadband, a South Yorkshire (UK) focused ISP that makes use of the financially challenged and often controversial Digital Region (DR) network (here), has today officially announced the 1st May 2012 start of its new Origin Max package that claims to deliver internet download speeds of up to 100Mbps (Megabits per second).

BTOpenreach claims to have boosted the total number of permanent full-time engineers involved with deploying its superfast broadband (FTTC / FTTP) ISP services in the UK to over 3,000 after it added an additional 150 recruits.

UPD2 Sky Launches New UK Superfast Unlimited Fibre Broadband Service

Sky Broadband (BSkyB) will tomorrow launch its new superfast Unlimited Fibre broadband package, which uses BT’s Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) technology to deliver internet download speeds of up to 40Mbps around the UK. The service costs £20 per month alongside a £50 one-off setup fee that includes the needed connection hardware and an engineer installation.

UK ISP BT Offers up to 76Mbps Superfast Broadband Boost for Free

As expected BT’s retail ISP division has today announced the April 12th launch of its own ‘up to’ 76Mbps (Megabits per second) capable superfast broadband (BTInfinity) packages, which are based off the recent 80Mbps FTTC profile upgrade (here).

UK ISP BE Broadband and O2 Delay Launch of Superfast Broadband to 2013

Internet provider BE Broadband has this morning informed their customers that they’re “not making very good progress on fibre” and will once again have to delay their plans to launch a full superfast broadband (FTTC) service until 2013. The move is also likely to affect parent ISP O2 UK (Telefonica).

BTOpenreach, which is responsible for providing UK internet providers with equal access to BT’s telecoms infrastructure, is this week expected to make its ‘up to’ 80Mbps (download speed) upgrade available to all ISPs offering services via their superfast broadband Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) platform (the 80Mbps trial ends today). FTTC’s maximum upload speed will also rise up to 20Mbps.

BT Confirms 97 Percent of Lancashire UK to Get its Superfast Broadband

BT and the Lancashire County Council (LCC) have announced that 97% of homes and businesses in the UK county will be able to receive the telecom operators superfast broadband (FTTC , FTTP) ISP services by the end of 2014 (subject to the timing of State Aid approval) after both parties agreed the new £62.5 million project.

BT has denied that the backup batteries used by its new generation of fibre optic (FTTC, FTTP) connected superfast broadband street cabinets could soon become a target for thieves. The result could be a serious loss of connectivity, albeit only if the theft occurred during a power outage.

BT Delays FTTC Superfast Broadband Upgrade in Burton UK by 3 Months

BT has warned that some homes and businesses in the joint Staffordshire and Derbyshire town of Burton (Burton-on-Trent) may now have to wait until 30th June 2012 (originally 31st March) before the area is upgraded to support the operators ‘up to’ 40-80Mbps superfast broadband technology (FTTC). Apparently an unspecified technical problem at the local telephone exchange is holding the work up.

Alternative UK Superfast Broadband ISPs See Significant Growth

Telecoms analyst firm Point Topic reports that alternative UK network operators, such as Rutland Telecom and Call Flow Solutions, have managed to increased their residential customer base by 85% since the middle of 2011. The news suggests that some of the smaller operators are “beginning to find their niche” by helping to reach poorly connected rural areas and individual communities with superfast internet access.

AAISP UK Reveals Pricing for its 80Mbps FTTC Superfast Broadband Service

The boss of business focused internet provider AAISP (Andrews & Arnold) UK claims to have “pretty much decided the plan” for its forthcoming 80Mbps (Megabits per second) capable Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) based superfast broadband launch. The 80Mbps service will carry a premium of around £12 inc. VAT per month extra (on top of what you already pay).

ISP Zen Internet UK Doubles its Broadband Usage Allowances for FREE

BT Unable to Bring UK Superfast Broadband to all Race to Infinity Winners

BT has confirmed that last year’s Race to Infinity campaign, which pledged a free upgrade for six communities (telephone exchanges) where demand for its ‘up to’ 40Mbps (soon to be 80Mbps) FTTC superfast broadband ISP product was highest (Race to Infinity Winners), will not be able to deliver the service to everybody who won.
