Internet provider Andrews & Arnold (AAISP) has attempted to spoof modern advertising practices and Sky Broadband’s recent offer of a 55Mbps “Minimum Speed Guarantee” by proposing to go one further with a 56Mbps guarantee. Naturally they’re quick to explain the caveats.

The roll-out of “ultrafast” fibre optic broadband services using Gigabit capable FTTH/P/B technologies is continuing to ramp up in 2017, with our latest annual estimate of total premises passed across the United Kingdom reaching 1,084,500 (up from 780k in 2016) and this is set to surge.

The Connecting Cheshire scheme in England has confirmed that their roll-out of “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) services across Cheshire and Warrington will soon be extended, which is thanks to the securing of an additional public investment worth £7.25 million.

New customers of Vodafone’s unlimited ‘up to 38Mbps and ‘up to’ 76Mbps capable FTTC (VDSL2) based “fibre broadband” packages can now benefit from a 20% discount on the monthly rental, which will apply for the first 18 months of service. As a result the prices now start from £20 per month.

The Government’s Broadband Delivery UK project has published its latest Q2 2017 take-up data for the state aid supported roll-out of “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) services across the United Kingdom, which shows that many regions are seeing 40%+ adoption and that will boost clawback.

The Government’s £1.6bn+ Broadband Delivery UK project has today confirmed that a total of £645m in public funding (i.e. clawback and efficiency savings) will be returned to help expand the reach of “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) to 98% of premises in the United Kingdom by around 2020.

BT Wholesale has published an updated price list (effective from 1st September 2017), which gives us a useful glimpse at the wholesale charges that UK ISPs will need to pay if they want to buy the operator’s 160Mbps (30Mbps upload) or 330Mbps (50Mbps upload) based G.fast broadband service.

Openreach has been criticised for a “criminal waste of taxpayers’ money” after their state aid supported roll-out of ‘up to’ 80Mbps capable FTTC broadband technology threatened to overbuild yet another one of B4RN’s community built 1Gbps FTTH/P networks, this time in Cumbria.

Sky (Sky Broadband) has cut the price of their ‘up to’ 17Mbps entry-level unlimited broadband and phone package again, dropping the monthly rental to just £15 for the first 12 months of service (£28.99 thereafter). The counter to this is that their £100 Prepaid MasterCard offer has ended.

The Northumberland County Council, which is currently working with Openreach (BT) to expand the coverage of “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) connectivity to 95% of local premises by the end of 2017, has launched a new £2.2m community fund that could benefit a further 2,000 premises.
