Customers of UK ISP Giganet in Hampshire, particularly those connecting through their Point of Presence (PoP) in the Winchester Exchange, are among those suffering from a major outage after “significant damage” was caused to one of Openreach’s main fibre spine cables by a “large excavation team” in Basingstoke.

Mobile operator Vodafone has today named some of the first rural towns in the UK to benefit from their planned rollout of 4G and 5G OpenRAN (O-RAN) technology, which is set to reach a total of 2,500 sites by the end of 2027 (here). The named communities have “traditionally struggled to receive good quality … mobile coverage“.

Openreach has apologised after its engineers, which were busy deploying a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network in Southampton (Hampshire, England), accidentally erected two telegraph poles in the wrong location at Seacombe Green, much to the annoyance of local residents. But they’ll soon be moved.

Broadband ISP WightFibre has revealed that their £85m project to deploy a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across the Isle of Wight (South Coast of Hampshire, UK) has now covered “over” 30,000 premises, which is up from 26,000 in April (here), albeit still short of their 41,000 goal for the end of 2021.

Some 40 residents of Ellis Road and Hinton Crescent in Southampton have criticised UK ISP Toob for extending a gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network into the area via telegraph poles instead of underground infrastructure, which they view as an “eyesore” and safety hazard.
