Broadband ISP WightFibre, which is currently investing £35m to rollout a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network to over 60,000 of the 70,000 homes on the Isle of Wight (South Coast of Hampshire) by the end of 2021, has today become the latest UK provider to launch a Whole Home WiFi service using Plume’s platform.

Portsmouth-based ISP toob, which is being supported by an investment of £75m (here) and aims to cover 100,000 UK premises with their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network by the end of 2021, has reached a deal to use ADTRAN’s Total Access 5000 (TA5000) series of Multi-Service Access Nodes (MSAN).

Sources have informed us that the Portsmouth City Council will award Cityfibre the £3.8m (public funding) Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) contract to rollout a new “gigabit-capable” Ethernet and broadband network across the south coast city (inc. nearby areas), which aims to connect public sector sites.

Alternative full fibre UK broadband ISP Trooli (CallFlow), which is supported by €30m from European investors (here) and aims to cover 500,000 premises across the South East of England by the end of 2024, has grown their network coverage to 10,000 premises and been awarded Path to Collaboration (PTC) by Openreach (BT).

Portsmouth-based UK ISP toob, which was setup by several of Vodafone’s former directors (here) and has attracted investment of £75m (here), is officially starting the rollout of their 900Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network in Southampton, despite Virgin Media’s threat to “keep them out of our city.”

Cable broadband ISP WightFibre appears to be ramping-up their £35m project to rollout a new Gigabit (1Gbps) capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network on the Isle of Wight (South Coast of Hampshire), which aims to cover around 53,000 of the islands 61,000 homes by the end of 2021 (65,000 premises including businesses).

The CEO of UK cable and TV operator Virgin Media (Liberty Global), Lutz Schüler, was warned a tiny rival start-up ISP called toob that it “will use everything to keep them out of our city,” which is a reference to how both plan to deploy 1Gbps speed broadband services across the port city of Southampton in Hampshire.

Over the past few months we’ve had a number of emails from people in rural parts of Hampshire that have been overlooked by the state aid supported Hampshire Superfast Broadband project. All wanted to know how the council, which has been fairly quiet on the subject since 2017, planned to tackle the final 2-3% of premises.

Cable TV and ultrafast broadband ISP Virgin Media looks set to extend their network coverage to several thousand more homes in Hampshire (England) by the end of 2019. A big chunk of the new work appears to be taking place in the large village of Bishopstoke, which sits just outside of Eastleigh.

Alternative full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP Trooli (CallFlow), which last month secured nearly £27m (€30m) from European investors (here) and aims to cover 500,000 premises across the South East of England by the end of 2024, has signed a £3.5m deal with marketing firm Cheeky to help promote their new network.

Hampshire-based telecoms and broadband provider Onecom has announced that they’ve successfully secured a five-year funding deal worth £30 million from HSBC UK. According to the ISP, this extra money will enable them to “invest heavily” in both their “systems and teams.“
