City focused FTTP/B broadband ISP Hyperoptic, which claims to cover well over 400,000 UK premises, has today launched some big Black Friday beating discounts as part of their Christmas and New Year sale event. This is expected to run until 31st January 2020 and sees prices (50Mbps) start at just £16.80 per month.

The owner of a £2.95m 30th floor apartment in The Heron (Barbican, London), 70 year old travel boss Stephen Shalson, is suing the building’s owners – Heron Residences LLP – for £97,300 after he moved in to find that the property didn’t have good broadband, which forced him to get online via external locations instead (cafes etc.).

As part of that they’re offering no connection fees across all of their services (use promo code BF19 on orders) and those taking a 12 month term will get a giftcard worth £50 – £75.

A few months ago we leaked information on a new 500Mbps package that was being tested by “full fibre” (FTTP/B) broadband ISP Hyperoptic (here). The good news is that this additional tier is now out of trial and will today be officially launched across their portfolio of packages.

Urban “full fibre” (FTTP/B) broadband ISP Hyperoptic has today announced that the global investment firm KKR has completed the acquisition of a majority stake in the provider from funds managed by Newlight Partners LP and the Mubadala Investment Company. Sadly financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.

The Milton Keynes Council in Buckinghamshire has reached a new agreement with UK ISP Hyperoptic, which will see their 1000Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP / B) broadband network being rolled out to cover 4,500 social housing properties in the town. The work is “due to start imminently.”

The Reading Borough Council has proposed a new agreement with UK ISP Hyperoptic that could result in them installing Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) initially to the authority’s own high-rise housing stock (subject to survey), but with the potential for further expansion to cover up to 75% of the geographic area of the Borough.

A new survey of 1,000 UK students, which was conducted by OnePoll on behalf of full fibre ISP Hyperoptic, has claimed that broadband connectivity is a top “priority” for the vast majority (88%) when moving into student housing. Students also spend an average of 55 hours a week online, but just 14 hours of this on work.

The move follows last year’s £500m investment push (here), which will support their rollout to reach 2 million UK premises by 2021.

Portsmouth-based UK ISP toob, which was setup by several of Vodafone’s former directors (here) and has attracted investment of £75m (here), is officially starting the rollout of their 900Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network in Southampton, despite Virgin Media’s threat to “keep them out of our city.”
