UK ISP Hyperoptic, which has already deployed their FTTP/B broadband network to well over 400,000 UK premises (mostly large apartment blocks), has today extended their option of a rolling 30 day contract term to include business packages for the first time (i.e. customers now get contract options of 30 days or 12 – 24 months).

A new survey of 1,000 UK video gamers, which was commissioned by full fibre broadband ISP Hyperoptic, has found that 44% of adult respondents named “the internet lagging” as the most infuriating aspect of online gaming, while 27% also complained about other players’ slow online speeds.

A complaint by full fibre broadband ISP Vodafone has prompted rival Hyperoptic to remove a statement on their website which, when written alongside their symmetric speed 1Gbps package, claimed that they offered the “UK’s fastest broadband.” The case was “informally resolved” through the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

The bosses of several other UK broadband ISPs and organisations, including Gigaclear, Cityfibre and Openreach among others, have now gone into self-isolation at home for at least 7 days after meeting the CEO of BT Group, Philip Jansen, last week. Initially it was thought that this only effected the chiefs of major mobile operators.

Comparison site Broadband Genie has today revealed the winners of their broadband speed awards, which covers different categories across standard, superfast and ultrafast connections. Overall Hyperoptic, a full fibre (FTTP/B) ISP that serves apartment blocks, was named the fastest ISP for both downloading and uploading.

How about this for consumer choice. Some premises along a street in St James’s (Central London) have just become one of the first UK locations to enjoy a choice of three “full fibre” (FTTP) ultrafast broadband networks, including via Hyperoptic, Openreach (BT) and G.Network. But many more will soon crop up.

The national telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today launched their first combined Wholesale Fixed Telecoms Market Review 2021-26 (FTMR), which proposes major changes to help boost investment in “full fibre” broadband and high capacity Ethernet (leased line) services for both the residential and business connectivity markets.
