Mobile Operator O2 UK Confirms First 5G Test Bed Set for London

Mobile network operator O2 UK (Telefonica) has today announced that they too are planning to conduct a test of future 5G ultrafast Mobile Broadband technology, which will take place at The O2 venue in North Greenwich later this year.

A new online survey of 5,603 UK adults has found that the average (mean) amount of Mobile Broadband data included with a Mobile plan is 5.9GB (GigaBytes) and yet subscribers only consume an average of 2.5GB, which suggests that some could save money by choosing a cheaper tariff.

Overall the country ranked 29th in the world for average fixed line broadband ISP speeds (Virgin Media is the fastest) and just 46th for mobile (EE is the fastest).

The total number of world fixed broadband subscribers grew by 2.38% in Q3 2017 and now stands at 913.3 Million (up by nearly 70 million over the past year). Meanwhile the number of copper lines (ADSL etc.) fell by 6.3% over the past year and “full fibre” FTTH/P connections increased by 30.4%.
