Cable operator Virgin Media has today announced the launch of its new Virgin TV Anywhere service, which allows the operators existing TV package subscribers to watch their favourite shows and channels from almost anywhere and at no extra cost; provided your fixed line or wifi can handle it (streaming over 3G is “not supported“).

Customers on Virgin Media’s UK cable broadband platform report that problems with high latency during peak times, which first struck the ISP last month when one of its public peering providers (Atrato) suddenly switched most of its traffic flow, appear to have returned.

Cable operator Virgin Media has announced customer trials of its new SmartCall service, which allows UK Smartphone users with a Virgin Phone Line to use the unlimited calls from their home phone talk plan on their mobile. But you’ll need to have a wireless internet (wifi) connection to make it work.

Virgin Media’s mobile division, which is aptly called Virgin Mobile, has today announced the launch of a new tariff (Big Data and Texts) for its Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) customers that offers unlimited data and 300 texts for a top-up of just £10. But beware the expiry date.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has once again banned an advert for Virgin Media’s service after one of its circular promotions (e.g. spam letters) was deemed to have misleadingly claimed that an individual’s street had been “connected” to its “state-of-the-art fibre optic cable“.

Cable ISP Virgin Media UK has begun preparing the final R37 Firmware update for their traumatised SuperHub (NetGear) wireless router / modem kit, which claims to fix the notorious corrupt downloads bug on their superfast broadband service. Not to mention a few problems with wifi and unexpected rebooting.

Cable operator Virgin Media UK has today released its latest quarterly results (Q3-2012), which saw their broadband ISP subscriber base increase by +44,200 in the quarter to reach a total of 4,413,400 (a good return to growth).

National UK telecoms operators BT and Virgin Media have “disappointed” Birmingham City Council (BCC) after they launched a shock legal challenge against the city’s £10m publicly funded (State Aid) plan to expand the reach of “ultrafast” (100Mbps+) broadband ISP and public wifi services by 2015.

Cable operator Virgin Media UK has announced that its free wireless internet (WiFi) service at 72 London underground tube stations will remain free until the end of 2012. The service had originally been due to adopt a commercial (paid) model after the Olympic Games but this plan has now been delayed.

Customers of UK cable operator Virgin Media have spent the past few days suffering from a mix of above normal latency and network congestion during peak times (late afternoon/night), which occurred after one of the ISPs public peering providers, Atrato, switched most of its traffic flow to the ISPs disadvantage (i.e. changed their routing).

ISPreview.co.uk isn’t the only one to notice the ridiculous amount of banned adverts for Virgin Media’s broadband, phone and TV packages, which the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has repeatedly accused of being “misleading“. This week saw the BBC’s famous consumer affairs TV show, Watchdog, take the ISP to task with a comical twist.
