The second stage of the annual Broadband Genie 2019 survey has today presented several awards to Zen Internet, the Post Office and Plusnet after they took the top spots across various different UK ISP performance categories. Overall budget ISP Plusnet took home the most wins, including for “Best Broadband Provider.“

Broadband ISP Zen Internet has revealed how they hope to unbundle a total of 700 exchanges from BT by 2021, which should enable their own network to cater for more than 80% of the UK with a total core capacity of 5Tbps (Terabits per second); before potentially rising to 987 exchanges by around 2025 (25Tbps core network).

A new survey by consumer magazine Which? has named the best and worst rated 12 home broadband ISPs for customer satisfaction, which saw Zen Internet (86%) come top and Sky Broadband (47%) fall to the bottom. But the survey also warned that many people are paying over the odds by choosing to remain loyal.

A new survey of 7,026 broadband customers, which was conducted by consumer magazine Which? in July 2018, has examined 12 of the biggest UK home broadband ISPs and found that customers of Virgin Media were the most likely to experience problems with their service. Meanwhile subscribers to Zen Internet had the least moans.

Rochdale-based UK ISP Zen Internet has this week become the latest provider to launch a range of residential “ultrafast broadband” packages using hybrid fibre G.fast technology, which can offer average download speeds of 145Mbps (30Mbps upload) or 300Mbps (50Mbps upload).

Customers of the Rochdale-based ISP Zen Internet may like to know that a small but useful change will soon make the provider’s Caller ID feature, which is currently a chargeable add-on service that shows the incoming number on a digital handset, completely free to use. But all phone providers will have to do the same.

Richard Tang, the long-time CEO and founder of Rochdale-based broadband and telecoms provider Zen Internet (since 1995), has announced that he is stepping down from his role. Under the plan Richard will effectively swap jobs with Paul Stobart, the company’s current Chairman.

The first six months of 2018 recorded another rise in average fixed home broadband download speeds to 33.29Mbps (7.82Mbps upload) among the top 10 ISPs, which continues to be fuelled by the rising adoption of faster FTTC, FTTP and Cable lines. Average mobile data speeds also hit 18.87Mbps (5.02Mbps upload).
