We’re finishing 2019 by taking a look back over the year to see how average broadband ISP download and upload speeds have changed across the top national fixed line and mobile operators. Overall the picture remains one of gradual improvement but the rollout of 5G and “full fibre” (FTTP) will soon change that dynamic.

A new survey of 2,001 UK adults by Censuswide, which was commissioned by broadband ISP Zen Internet, has found that 28% of respondents are concerned that too many devices using their home WiFi at once over Christmas could impact the reliability of their internet connectivity.

A spate of internet connectivity problems appears to have been striking customers of UK ISP Zen Internet since earlier this morning, which so far as we can tell currently only affects those with DSL (ADSL and FTTC / VDSL2) based broadband lines.

Rochdale-based broadband ISP Zen Internet has today announced the appointment of Georgina Lord to be the new Managing Director of their consumer facing Retail division, which forms part of the UK provider’s on-going efforts to take on the “big four” (BT, Sky Broadband, TalkTalk and Virgin Media).

A new survey by broadband ISP Zen Internet has claimed that 9.1 million UK households don’t have access to WiFi throughout their homes and the provider believes that it’s the “responsibility of the broadband industry” to ensure this is delivered. As such they’ve launched their new EveryRoom guarantee (mesh network solution).

In a new interview the founder and chairman of UK ISP Zen Internet, Richard Tang, has called for the “fibre tax” to be scrapped in order to boost “full fibre” broadband and explains some of the problems of working with smaller altnet ISPs. On top of that he also warns about the difficulties of trying to regulate internet content.

After reducing their residential broadband prices Zen Internet has today announced further price drops – varying from between 8% and 22% – across their range of small business focused packages. This mostly appears to impact their standard ADSL, “superfast” FTTC and “ultrafast” G.fast based bundles (FTTP plans are unchanged).

Rochdale-based broadband ISP and communications provider Zen Internet (since 1995) looks set to begin the next phase of their network expansion, which should help them to reach 80% of the UK. This reportedly comes after NatWest extended a £20m revolving credit facility to help fund the effort.

PC Pro magazine has released the results of their annual 2019 awards, which saw ISP Zen Internet once again being named as the UK’s “Best Broadband Provider” for the 16th consecutive year. Meanwhile giffgaff scooped the award for “Best Mobile Data” operator. Sadly the results were not so good for the market’s biggest providers.

Rochdale-based UK ISP Zen Internet has informed us that they’ve further reduced the standard monthly price of their FTTC (VDSL2) based Unlimited Fibre 2 (66Mbps average) broadband and phone bundle, which appears to have gone from £38.99 per month at our last check to £34.99, albeit with a £19.99 one-off activation fee.

A new survey of 2,000 UK consumers, which was conducted by ISP Zen Internet, has claimed that almost one in five broadband users in Southampton (20%) and Glasgow (18%) are “fed up” with their ISP. As usual nearly half of the respondents in Southampton (47%) and Glasgow (46%) cited slow speeds, with reliability close behind.

A new survey of 2,000 UK consumers, which was conducted by broadband ISP Zen Internet, has claimed that the top technical difficulties experienced at home were slow internet connections (42%), devices disconnecting from WiFi (25%), internet outages (23%), trouble setting up new devices (22%) and computer viruses (13%).

Broadband ISP Zen Internet says they’ve “permanently” reduced the price of their dedicated and fibre optic based Ethernet leased line data connectivity services for all businesses by up to 36%, which means that prices now start from just £230 +vat per month for 10Mbps and go up to £525 for 1Gbps.

Which? has conducted a new “loyalty penalty” study of entry-level “fibre broadband” and phone bundles across 12 of the biggest broadband ISPs in the UK market. This reveals that customers of Virgin Media, TalkTalk and the Post Office are hit by the biggest price hikes (up to 60%) after their initial contract ends.

Rochdale-based UK ISP Zen Internet has informed us that they’ve discounted the price of their standalone “full fibre” (FTTP) based superfast and ultrafast broadband packages, which offer average download speeds of up to 300Mbps (45Mbps upload); slower and cheaper plans are also available.

Rochdale-based UK broadband provider Zen Internet has announced that Ofcom’s consumer focused automatic compensation scheme is being extended to its channel partners and wholesale customers. As a result customers of those partners will also be able to benefit, even if the partner ISP itself has not signed-up to the regulator’s code.
